Default Sleepless in "the Villages" part 2

After an evening of, solving all the world problems, listening to the harmony of my 4-pawed fur Ball and the old boy with their synchronized snoring, I resorted to getting out my tablet and playing games. Surely to goodness there is a better solution. Suggestions????

How about a cup of chamomile tea, a melatonin tablet and a nice book. No screens (tv, tablet, computer).

Sometimes, I listen to a book on Audible with AirPods. But, if you do that, look at where you begin because you will go to sleep while the book just keeps on going.

Sometimes, I try to bore the heck out of my overtime brain by visualizing the map of the US and trying to name all the state capitals (not out loud though)……BISMARCK! Where art thou? North? South?……………..ok. deep breath….visualize map……top to bottom…..associate…..alphabetical, top to bottom…….GOT IT!

Sometimes, I start with the 13 colonies. Sometimes, I start out west. Sometimes, I do a random start. But eventually, I bore myself to sleep before all 50 are accounted for.

Get a "white noise" machine...

My wife swears by it when "the dog*" is snoring...

*That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

For many various reasons I am up late into the night many nights. Between the tv and the tablet I keep myself busy. I take my sleeping pills at some point but they don’t always help. Sometimes I listen/watch music videos that put me to sleep.

After 40 plus years of on call, sleep is still a challenge. But I can nap within minutes, and wake quickly. I avoid caffeine except for 7am coffee.
I find that if I go to my iPad, as I am now, I will rarely go back to sleep. If I read a paper book, I can return to sleep within an hour. I don’t use an herbal tea, or OTC meds. A sleep study with a Cpap for spouse maybe answer for spouse snoring, the pet however you have much less control.

I used to have problems sleeping due to irregular hours, dozing in the chair watching tv.
I changed to a more regimented regime, of going to bed at 10pm. reading for 20-30 minutes, and gradually my brain accepted this, and sleep came a lot easier.
A long walk every day, no dozing in front of tv (I seldom watch the thing these days anyway) also helps.
I now hit the pillow, and just sleep.

Two well made vodka screwdrivers just before bed works wonders. I recommend it.
