Our great young Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, gave a brilliant foreign policy speech at the Jesse Helms Center in Wingate, North Carolina this past Tuesday, Sept. 13th.
Marco Rubio recalled how Jesse Helms and Ronald Reagan in 1976 forced passage of a “morality in foreign policy” plank to the Republican Party platform which declared that “The goal of Republican foreign policy is the achievement of liberty under law and a just and lasting peace in the world.” This same principle, Rubio said, should animate the Republican Party’s foreign policy today. Sen. Rubio also went on to say: "If we refuse to play our rightful role and shrink from the world, America and the entire world will pay a terrible price. And it is our responsibility to clearly outline to the American people what our proper role in the world is and what American interests are at stake when we engage abroad." Sen. Rubio then did just that by presenting what his vision of America’s interests, and of our country's role in foreign affairs, from Latin America to the Middle East. I would be nice if our Republican candidate would do the same. A mere 9 minutes was devoted to foreign policy by the commentators and the candidates in the last debate. If you want to know what you should have heard on that debate stage, take the time to listen to our rising star of the U.S. Senate; Sen. Marco Rubio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=SH0a3Uis0ck |

I looked at some of the comments left by viewers of the video and was rather amused at some of them.
One commenter struck a note that has been left by a couple of people on this forum about President Obama not being a natural born citizen because his father was not a US citizen. The commenter stated that Marco Rubio's father was not a US citizen at the time he was born in the US, either. If the sauce is good for the goose ... however that was just a ridiculous comment by a viewer. Rubio has no foreign policy experience. He is a good speaker - from a teleprompter, too. Too bad he is a Tea Party extremist. Moderates do not like the extremists. |

You can say Tea Party extremist a million times and it will not be so. Moderates from the right got America into this mess by running the moderate McCain. The Tea Party will bring down this villainous regime in the White House and make America great again. The alternative will be the end of the World's great hope, the USA.

The problem is that we don't follow our words with actions.
Remember the tin-pot dictators that Presidents of BOTH parties supported. Every President I can remember has gotten into bed with despots that we wish would have never happened. |

Figures you wouldn't focus on his great speech, and instead seek to impugn him. This poised eloquent young politician is going to be a force to be reckoned with by the Democrat Party for many years. There was no teleprompter. He gave this long speech the old fashioned way. He had notes on the dais. Unlike Obama, there is irrefutable proof of Marco Rubio's birth on American soil. There is nothing questionable about it. |

Rubio, from Florida, does seem to have an excellent speechwriter, a good teleprompter presence, and presents the speech in a positive way.

Rubio is a great speaker, from south florida, with immigrant parents I believe...Unfortunately he represents a constituency in south Florida that still is busy yelling "communista" at everyone that disagrees with them..I don't know his feeling on immigration laws but I have a huge problem with Folorida's "wet foot, dry foot" policy...If folks are not aware of it simply put if your feet touch land you are granted assylum...If you are Cuban......Rosanna Danna in DC was instrumental in getting this horrific/discriminatory law passed...
Ritchie's google button is not workin too good, maybe that splains the Cal reference.. |

If you ever, ever heard Sen. Rubio speak directly to the people and even off the cuff on the House floor where he wipes the floor with his inept opponents, you would know he "don't need no stinkin' speechwriter".

Rubio might be able to "wipe the floor with his inept opponents" but can he do the same with the "ept opponents"? Richie, I knew what you meant - but a Senator like Rubio speaks on the Senate floor. A Representative speaks on the House floor. Just a slip of your conservative fingers on the keys.
As we all know, all politicians have speechwriters who are able to take the Congressman's ideas and talking points and make them sound like "off the cuff" remarks and to sound brilliant. It is when the politician is in an interview and the topic goes somewhere that is not included in the script - such when Sarah Palin was asked which US Supreme Court decisions she did not agree with besides Roe v Wade or which newspapers she read on a regular basis - that is the time when the politician gets the stunned look of a cow just hit by a hammer before slaughter. If Rubio can learn to compromise with other Senators, he could be a very good leader some day. Give him some time. |

when they see a great speaker without a teleprompter who happens not to belong to their ideals or party affiliation.

http://teacher.scholastic.com/schola...08-REPRO-2.pdf You can apologize to me later. Also if you want to see the cajones and brilliance of Marco Rubio "without speechwriters", watch him make Dem. Sen. John "F" Kerry look small in this video on "the Senate Floor" when he yields the floor to a question (almost unheard of by an Senator who has the floor as they don't want to risk getting caught with their pants down). He thinks on his feet and he doesn't stutter. Don't underestimate this guy. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_68GjR6V6zI[/ame] |
