My wife and I were stopped at the red light on 466 between Citizens Bank and the Shell Station. In front of us was a woman on a bike. I really didn't get a close look at her but she was not a "spring chicken", probably in her 70's or so. In any case she was stopped in front of us. She then waited for cars to pass and started crossing 466 with the red light. She stopped in the middle until cars cleared and then proceeded the rest of the way across 466. Maybe she felt like she was just a pedestrian instead of someone riding a bike.

Get use to it. She is not the first and will not be the last.

I was under the impression that even pedestrians had to obey traffic lights.

It does not sound as if she took any unnecessary chances with cars if she waited until all oncoming cars on 466 were gone before she started across.
Yes, I know that a person on a bicycle is supposed to obey all the traffic rules as cars - but was it something you deemed worthy to post on TOTV? It must have really gotten to you even though it did not harm you in anyway. |

So John reports a situation with a bike rider that's obviously a safety concern and another poster says what's the big deal? Like "no harm no foul". All too often here we get this kind of response where the original poster is criticized for even posting what he saw.We had this same kind of response when grandpa let his grandson wreck the golf cart and destroy a gate. Some posters said what's the big deal.Good grief some people sure are [you fill in the word]

Gatherer47, well, let's see what kind of response this brings -
"Good grief, some people sure are wondering why a person who crosses the road against the light is Villages-worthy news." I could definitely see posting about what my wife saw yesterday - a car on the Multi-Modal trail. The poor guy knew he had done something wrong but had to continue until he got to the next neighborhood entrance. She said carts were shouting at the driver and he was just trying to get off the trail as soon as possible. Or someone posting about seeing Gramps driving his golf cart with 2 grandkids standing in the back strapped in like golf bags. To me, those are more post-worthy than a person crossing the road against the light. Hey, maybe it is just me. No harm, no foul for posting what you want. |

If my posting was out of line and seemed petty, I do apologize. From the title of the original posting "Another Villager Biker Scofflaw", I was anticipating a Harley-Davidson speeding at 65 mph on a Multi-Modal Trail. Instead, I got a 70 year old lady crossing the street against the light.
Anyhow, no harm was done and I hope I did not ruffle too many feathers. It was not my intent. |
