Default Our President today....

in the ceremony awarding a medal of freedom (posthumously) referred to the Nazi death camps as "Polish Death Camps"

"Poles Demand Obama Apology For “Polish Death Camps” Comment"

"The remark, which barely drew notice in America, is all over the Polish news today. On the country's largest television station:"

Poles Demand Obama Apology For "Polish Death Camps" Comment

Polish officials call on Obama to apologize for ‘death camp’ remark | JTA - Jewish & Israel News

In reading a bit more background, I find that among those who should know this term is and has been considered insulting to Poles.

While I am obviously anti Obama my feeble mind went to those folks who have the job of preparing the President for these kind of events. This is something that they should know and should have impressed strongly on him.

Besides this major gaffe which will receive little criticism in the MSM, Obama gave one of 14 Medal Of Freedoms to the Chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. The recipient is an 82 year old labor activist, Dolores Huerta, who is also a co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union.

Dolores Huerta has claimed that “Republicans hate Latinos,” and has praised the despotic socialist regime of Hugo Chavez’s in Venezuela.

There's a video in the article linked with more radical comments by Ms. Huerta.

Who cares if the Poles dwell on every word that Obama says? (I'm sorry, Bucco, I know you do.)

Many of the worst Nazi death camps were in Poland, thank you very much. Auschwitz-Birkenau was in Poland. Bełżec was in Poland. Kulmhof was in Poland. Poznań was in Poland. Gross-Rosen was in Poland. Majdanek was in Poland. Płaszów was in Poland. Sobibor, Soldau, Stutthof and Treblinka were in Poland. Warsaw was in Poland. All those concentration and extermination camps were in Poland. They were Polish death camps! I don't think it takes an English major to figure out that Obama was stating where the death camps were located. He certainly wasn't inferring that the Poles killed the Jews.

It just proves that Obama is not as bright as advertised. As you even say; not all death camps were located in Poland. It was a stupid thing for him to say.

I can think of a couple of Republicans you berate who I'd bet would not have made such a stupid comment.

You keep saying you won't vote for the man, but rarely miss an opportunity to defend him, even to the point of reaching far as you've done here.

You need to make up your mind about how you feel about this amateur.

They were Nazi death camps in occupied Poland. He should note the error.

I said "good morning" to my wife today. It was raining. She said "you are not nearly as intelligent as I thought you were"; "how stupid to say that"; "it's like you weren't even born in the USA"; "thank god you're old and won't try to run for public office being foreign-born, stupid, less than intelligent and a damned Socialist"

First thing that comes to my mind is when Geo Bush attending the APEC conference, said something about welcoming folks to the OPEC conference.

It made the front page of various newspapers in this country and certainly does not rank up there with this gaffe.

You and all the defenders of Obama are beginning to look silly. Can this mortal man make NO mistakes......is he not a man ?

It does not appear that he can lie enough to have you and your cohorts criticize him....it does not appear that he can embarass our country sufficiently to have you and your cohorts to criticize him.

Default OK, He's Apologized, Now What?

So now Obama has made an apology to the Poles for an obvious, unintended poor choice of words...
White House: Obama regrets 'Polish death camps' remark; camps were Nazi | wtsp.com
So now what? How long will this relatively minor faux pax be politicized while there are serious issues on the table?

As I've said many times, I intend to vote for Mitt Romney. Should my intent be modified by his mis-statements which offended lots of people such as liking "firing people"; his wife's two Cadillacs; criticizing a non-existent French "law" permitting the automatic ending of marriage; criticizing Obama saying that it's not worth the cost or effort to kill Osama bin Laden; trying to criticize Hugo Chavez by using a Spanish phrase which was actually supportive of Castro in Cuba; angering women by saying that his wife's opinion is "not terribly relevant to my campaign"; complimenting Hitler for his energy policy; claiming that he created over 100,000 jobs when no one could ever substantiate that claim; being completely wrong in stating that unemployment reached double-digit levels under Carter but improved under Reagan's policies, when the reverse was actually true; his campaign claim that he will eliminate ObamaCare with an executive order, a power no president actually has...and on and on.

No, I will not make my judgement based on a literal and often out-of-context statements by either candidate. In a heated, politicized campaign where both candidates frequently try to appeal to narrow and highly partisan groups of prospective voters, I expect both candidates to make occasional gaffes which are clearly unintended and not reflective of their beliefs and positions in important issues. If they say certain things repeatedly, I'll get concerned. But otherwise, I'll make my voting decision based on a thoughtful consideration of a candidate's entire body of statements, writings, legislative achievement and overall experience.

Richie,Dolores Huerta is a great American who was one of the most influential labor leaders of the 20th century. Instead of harping on what you consider her negatives how about reading of all her accomplishments. She was a very deserving recipient of the honor. She is the great American dream.

It seems to me, and I understand your thinking of me, but it does seem that this thread and many others are started non maliciously.....THIS ONE...I wondered about the folks who prep the President for this kind of thing.....and the defense becomes so rabid and fanatic you sort of make those of us who may criticize anything to appear as if we make this stuff up.

This man is the PRESIDENT.....he is subject to criticism but you guys dont see it that way. You see anything relative to him as protected or something. He will make mistakes guys......and you can try to turn the tables but it does not CHANGE THE MAN. I admire your loyalty (and YOU are loyal as with each post you give yourself an out and ALWAYS add just a bit of a shot at whomever has criticized him or the other candidate..I mean just about ALWAYS) BUT as you like to say about anyone who criticizes him, we are making a lot of nothing....when you come on here to constantly defend him and of course add...I will vote for Romney UNLESS.....to me, THAT is disingenuous but you are consistent.

This entire thread would have died a natural death if not for those of you who try to use it to turn on anyone who has the nerve to be critical of the "One"

Politicized??; by WHO??......us??

This foolish gaffe didn't even get picked up by our supposedly conservative Daily Sun. NO ONE is talking about it.

Now, if this was Romney who said it, we'd all be deluged with stories about how out of touch he appears, and how do his supporters continue to back such a flawed statesman.

I dunno. Bucco is all upset by it. He says all of Poland is enraged.

No big deal, I guess. The Poles aren't registered voters.

Remarks by the President at Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony | The White House

This looks like it happened yesterday.

I agree it is a stupid mistake. "Polish death camp" controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I suppose it is repeated here, however, in the Jewish Virtual Library--
Extermination Camps in Poland

This is an interesting petition about banning this phrase from the journalism style manual-- Associated Press bans phrase “Polish death camps” | Forum Polonia Houston

The Kosciuszko Foundation - Petition on German Concentration Camps

You can sign this petition to remove the phrase from proper journalism on the Kosciuszko Foundation link above. Think it should read Nazi Concentration Camps though.
