Right-Wing Extremism - SPIEGEL ONLINE - Nachrichten
This English edition of the German newspaper Spiegel describes Neo-Nazis as extremists of the far right. That kind of fits with the far right ideas of skinheads in the US like the skinhead who shot up the Sikh temple in Wisconsin. In contrast, Hitler's Nazis were fascists though responding to the economic problems of the times (1920s and 1930s). They pitted liberals/communists and others from the left against those from the right like big businesses in Germany by scapegoating Jews and many others. Nazis and other 1920s/1930s Fascists had a heavy nationalist and military component and were bent on conquests. Different time, different country, different cultures in play. Hitler and his henchmen used the fears and insecurities of his countrymen to lie his way into power and then kept that power through further lies and massive violence. A very thoughtful book about Hitler's rise to power is How Do You Kill 11 Million People http://michaelhyatt.com/how-do-you-k...on-people.html. The book by Andy Andrews is about 40 pages of argument/historical analysis and then another 30 of additional commentary. You can probably read it in less than an hour. |

What I don't understand is why these extreme factions has such hatred of the Government. Maybe our government is too big, but just imagine the chaos without a government at all. That would be far worse. (only in my Opinion)

The Sovereign Movement in the US does seem to have some parallels to Hitler's group in the early 1920s before the Nazis starting getting the backing of various big businesses. Sovereign Citizens Movement Resurging | Southern Poverty Law Center |

Sorta interested too in what some of the people on the right think about How Do to Kill 11 Million People. Not sure what the politics of its writer Andy Andrews are. http://www.christianbook.com/million...8350/pd/948350
Cannot see how many people can get at the truth about the political candidates in the US when so much of the media insist on spreading fictions about various candidates. Andrews' book is about the importance of citizens being very well informed about what positions their candidate actually take rather than what say political action committees claim that have taken. |

Anyone who follows TOTV knows I am a liberal. I do keep track of those posters who seem to be far from liberals. Andrews could be speaking about Obama in his book. I do not know. He is a corporate motivational speaker. |

Buggy, as I have pointed out before William L. Shirer in "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is very clear and objective in his description of Nazism. It is clear from any historical analysis that the Nazi's were left wing and competed with the communists for the left wing vote. The conservatives did not vote for either of these parties. The Nazi's used the Reichstag fire as evidence (most believe forged evidence) that the communists were truing to take over Germany. As a result the Nazi's won a majority in the next election and the rest, as they say, is history. It's time forr you to actually read some books on the history of that period rather than urging others to do so in order to conceal your ignorance of the subject. You should start with Shirer and then go on to "In the Garden of Beasts" by Larson. BTW, the opposite of both Communism and Nazism is freedom. __________________ |

I actually have a problem with the word "extremism" and then alluding to "nazis",,,,the entire thing is somewhat offensive and as strongly as I feel about things....well for example, Bush was denegrated as a nazi....that is the word used by the left because of what he did after 9/11 yet today we kill more innocent people with drones based on a decision by one man (see kill lists) with not even discussion, and we spy on more americans than ever before, and yet to use the word "extremism" and "nazi" is disturbing to me.
This thread makes implications that I find very offensive....and as I take my leave, let me leave you with an article that is recent that points out some things that are pertitent. " Don't you find it odd that the word extremism seems to apply only to conservative Republicans? Terminology often drives political discourse and those who control the terms often determine the outcome. Establishment Republicans have too often been uncomfortable in their own skin. When they win elections, they sometimes seem unsure of what to do next. Democrats never seem to have this problem. They operate according to their core convictions and are never considered extreme. Instead, they are moderate, even normal. When Republicans stick to their convictions, they are branded with a scarlet “E.” Cal Thomas: What about liberal extremism? | Salisbury, NC - Salisbury Post I see no purpose anywhere for a thread like this, but not my call....just wonder about the thought process that accompanies this. |

I have a B.A. in History and have read quite a bit about the Fascists in Italy, Spain, and Germany. They were nothing like any liberals at any other time nor in any other countries. So, I see no basis to any kind of argument that the Nazi Fascist were in any sense of the left wing but were of the far right wing. I do find trying to put the Germany of the 1920s and 1930s into the politics of the US in the 2012s rather ridiculous though. There are a lot of rather obscene arguments being made on the Internet that the Nazis were precursors of Obama's socialism. I find that extremely offensive. |

Of course the Nazi movement is the extreme right wing element. If anyone has done any reading on the matter, they would understand that.

I looked at one of my history books-- J.A.S. Grenville's A History of the World in the Twentieth Century which has a section on the failure of parliamentary democracy in Germany and the Rise of Hitler. On page 196, Grenville describes some of the various lies that brought the right-wing extremist Nazis to power through clever manipulation of nationalism, anti-Semitism, anti-Communism, and Social Darwinism.
