Default Broken Shaft

Broke the shaft on my driver about an inch above where it goes into the head. How do I get the stub out of the head? Thanks

If it's graphite you can just drill it out,but you want to make sure that you have the exact size drill bit. (Most likely 0.335")

If it's steel, you need to clamp the part of the shaft that is sticking out and heat the hosel with a torch or heat gun and then twist the head as you're pulling it off the shaft. If you don't have enough of the shaft sticking out to grab on to then you need a special e-z out tool that you insert into the shaft and twist it tight. You can also drill out a steel shaft but you need to be very careful that you don't enlarge the hole. It's best to do it on a drill press but I've done them with a specially hardened drill bit and a standard drill.

Default Shaft replacement

This is not for first timers. Unlike re-gripping you can make a mess or even do some damage depending on the type of driver head.

That said, it will come out with heat. You need to heat where the club shaft connects to the head of the club to the point where the epoxy gives and you can pull the head off.

If you are not comfortable or do not have the proper equipment, I would just take it to the folks at Golf Liquidation on 466, east of Morse.

You need to heat it with a hot air gun only, not any type of flame. The epoxy used in golf clubs is a type that gets soft with heat so they can be removed. Never use a regular type epoxy as it will get stronger with heat.

My brain took me somewhere else...and it wasn't golf!
