Default 2nd or 3rd move within TV

Why do most move for a 2nd or 3rd time when they get to TV? Is it to downsize even more or upsize for office space, garage, pool, spare bedroom for company? Were you glad you did it?

I've been told that people move in to a villa or cottage to get their feet wet and if they feel comfortable with the place or for snowbirds who sell their home, they decide to go designers or up. Unless you plan carefully, what happens is that your villa or cottage will not accommodate all the stuff. My friend had to move up from a designer to a bigger designer when they sold their place up north. My friend was perfectly happy with the previous designer home but his wife wanted to decorate with all the paintings and furnitures from up north. This is reverse downsizing to accommodate all the stuff. In his case he liked the old neighborhood so much that they moved to a place not too far from the old. I would be curious to know what percentage moves while in TV at least once. Perhaps 20 per cent? i love our neighborhood so we hope we don't have to move but....

we bought our PV because it fit our need and allowed our parents to come and have a place to stay...we are now looking for our next house, 1 for a bigger garage, 2 for more sq ft.... split floor plan...yard it not on the list we don't want to tinker around in the dirt

People move for a lot of reasons. Some want a brand spankin' new updated home, or some want a bigger home, or some want a smaller home, or some want a pool or want a home now with no pool or one with a bigger lanai or a bigger garage or want a view. About half of my neigbors in our new village moved from another village.

It is usually EASIER to move once you are here because you have already gotten rid of the stuff you had too much of before you moved to The Villages AND labor costs for moving are SO MUCH cheaper here.

We are glad we moved to a bigger house since it is our year 'round house now and we are sorry we left the folks from the old neighborhood but we love the folks from the new neighborhood and we hang out with both groups.

It is easy to sell your house here, so if you want to move you can.

That's a HUGE factor! Probably the only place in the country where that's possible.

From reading this board I think for full time retired residences space is a big reason. Generally a bigger garage that can be either a stretch or changing from a 1 to a 2 car garage or adding a golf cart garage. Next is probably adding to the width or length of the home and thus increasing some of the room sizes. Storage space may also be a problem so be sure to identify where you will store your things. If you only want to buy once, think of how you will use each room and if it is large enough. Error with some extra space.

The question is "Why do we have all this stuff?"

We moved once to up-size and once to get away from our neighbors.

Except in California, where hotrodgirl sold her house in one week, termites and all, for over the asking price! That's amazing. Supply and demand?

This is really good advice. The hardest thing for us northerners to remember is that there will be no basement storage.
