Default Buying a car

So I read in another post it cost 400-500 dollars to register a car. Wow that is the highest I have ever heard. My question is do you pay that every time you buy a car or does the plate transfer and the 400 is only a one time charge. Also are there sales taxes on top of the 400-500 dollars? thnks

Thank You but the site while informative doesn't answer my question. Can someone answer my original question?

According to the website mentioned above in post 2, it's a one time charge on the title transfer, then plate renewals annually thereafter. You only pay tax if the car is less than 6 months old. If I read the fee schedule correctly, it's:

$225 for Initial title registration
$80 for title
$40 for tags

The $400 is a "Impact" fee. You don't pay it if you transfer an existing Florida plate from one car to another (trade in).

I'm curious, I don't see anything listed on the gov sites about a $400 "Impact fee" Are you just adding all the registration fees/taxes up to come up to $400, or is there a separate charge somewhere? To me, it's confusing when folks call it an "Impact fee".

Either you'll pay a first time high fee for title and registration in florida or pay high property and excise taxes in other states, especially any commonwealth state. Virginia was the most expensive state I've ever lived in for owning property.

Try NJ! Built my house in 1976, property taxes were $1500. Sold it in 2008...property taxes were $21,000! I love Fl.

Default Delaware

I currently live in Delaware. Car reistration is $40 a year includes the plate which stays with the car not the owner. Just paid my real estate taxes. $167 for the county $900 something school taxes. $87 votech school taxes. Yes grand total $1100 and change for real estate taxes. I am moving from the lowest cost of living state in the country as rated by Where to Retire, Forbes etc. to Florida which isn't the highest but is up there. Going to be a rude awakening for taxes and fees etc. for us! BTW NO sales tax in Delaware either.
The Delaware Chancery Court system pays for most of the state sevices here. Every major corporation in the country is incorporated here and pays the state for the privilege.

Interesting...always wondered why my employer who is headquartered in Houston and has operations in Illinois and Alabama is incorporated in Delaware.

I hate to ask how much it is to transfer 49CC scooter plate... In the state I in the initial tax was 110. dollars for scooter. I get state taxed and I can't drive the scooter on roads with speed limits over 45 MPH.... No matter what state your from it's money raising tax like they don't get enough tax off gasoline.
