Thumbs up 42 Thumbs Up

I saw "42", the movie that covers the period of 1945 to 1947 of Jackie Robinson's baseball career and his start with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Whether or not you are a baseball fan, this is an excellent movie. Parts of it will probably make you angry; parts of it will make you want to cheer. Excellent performances all around by the actors.

I will recommend this movie to my father who has been a Cubs fan since he was a child, and at almost age 83, he remembers well when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball.

My father is a long suffering Cubs fan also. And is about that age as well. 82 now.

Thanks for the review. I''ll wait a few weeks though because it will probably be quite crowded here in the Villages for that movie.

Thanks for the review. My son and I will probably go see it if he can find the time.

Here's hoping the Cubs make it to the World Series while our dads are still with us.

On an unpleasant note, about 5 days ago someone delivered a goat's head to Wrigley Field, and the box containing the goat's head was marked to the attention of Tom Ricketts, whose family bought the Cubs a few years ago.

Fan is short for fanatic but even that is going wayyyyyyyyyy over the line. I think he must have seen The Godfather one too many times.

The Cubs have become my National league team especially after the Steve Bartman episode. That guy didn't have a clue of the magnitude of his error.
Unfortunately, he paid a heavy price from the fans.

I hope they win a World series shortly.

Default Curse of the billy goat on the Cubs

In 1945 (the last time the Cubs made it to the World Series), Billy Sianis, then owner of Chicago's Billy Goat Tavern, wanted to bring his goat with him into Wrigley Field to watch a World Series game against the Detroit Tigers. The ushers would not let the goat into Wrigley Field and P.K. Wrigley, then owner of the Cubs, upheld the ban on the goat's admission. Billy Sianis then put a "curse" on the Cubs for not allowing his goat entry into Wrigley Field. From the web site of the Billy Goat Tavern, the curse is as follows: "The Cubs ain't gonna win no more. The Cubs will never win a World Series so long as the goat is not allowed in Wrigley Field."

Over the years the curse of the billy goat has been credited by some people as the reason for the Cubs' lack of success in getting to the World Series. It makes for an interesting story.
