at the recommendation of a friend we watched World War Z with Brad Pitt......it was the most disgusting, boring, zombie, trash we have ever seen.
If you see the first 15 minutes you have seen the whole movie....that is if you can make it that far in this mindless zombie blodfest. It does not even qualify being called a bad science fiction or horror movie. One has to wonder about a super star like Brad Pitts thinking when they accept a trash move role. Is his career so limited already? btk |

Every now and then on a rainy day we watch one of our pay for view movies..........like you, we've really been disappointed in mostly all of them. They are NOT made for our age , that's for sure. Yesterday we saw one about the end of the world at James Franco's house , I think in the Hollywood Hills..........or Hollywood. Lots of young "stars" were in it, portraying themselves..........of course, lots of foul language.........LOTS OF SINK HOLES........they were all smoking drugs and using other drugs, for sure...........not John Wayne !! Cinema has sunk to a new low. But, it's not our generation crowding into the theatres to see this. We have Direct TV and you really cannot tell prior to ordering the movie exactly what it is going to be. But, I "hear you" loud and clear............where are all the good comedies of long ago? We do plan to watch the one with Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips. Captain Phillips lives in our state of Vermont. That movie looks good....for sure. Also, the one with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock? I think she's in it. ""GRAVITY"" |

I didn't like the book too much, either. How many different zombie attacks can you read about? I never finished it.

wish there were more Redboxs in the area...I don't mind spending $1.20 for a movie that turns out bad but comcast wants $5.99 for pay per view?

I thought that WWZ was less gory than most Zombie movies.
I kind of liked it. I rent from Netflix so it is not that expensive. $16.00 for 3 DVDs at a time with two day turnaround. Z

It seemed like a very different take on zombies with them moving so fast. It was just OK for me. I liked the more original Warm Bodies which is also about zombies. Warm Bodies also seems to have a parable.
I am a big fan of The Walking Dead and it seems like this movie is creating a huge demand for zombie related entertainment. Redbox is only $1.20 a night and they also often have two-for-one deals as well as 25 or 50 cents off the DVDs. About 50% of the time, I do not even watch all the movie and wait to get it some other night. |

This month we've rented from Red Box 'Side Effects, Flight, The Call, Oblivion', watched on TV 'Lincoln, Life of Pi, Hitchcock, Trouble with the Curve', and watched at the theater 'Blue Jasmine, Prisoners' and Gravity in 3D'. All were pretty good, several were outstanding and I had a pretty good idea of what each one was about. Once you have those websites it's not hard to do a little research. |

I also have a cousin who is an actor. Ditto. I've looked at all of their "work" on that site. Usually, it's a boring rainy day and I say to my husband, "Let's rent a movie" and then without the research, he just scrolls down on the Direct TV screen.......of the movies available........without listening to or reading the explanations..........we also just watched one with Robert DiNero who normally would be one of my favorite actors..........and it was just so so. We get all of the other free movie channels as well. Rarely watch them. We should take your advice.......but these movies aren't really planned out. Just happen. We are movie buffs......and now, at our age, enjoy watching them from our reclining chairs. Some do put us to sleep. So, we are literally paying for a "nap". Others are good. I used to do most of my movie watching on TMC - then Comcast removed it from the channel line-up that I was paying for. It would have cost nearly double just to add the one station I wanted. I miss the classics.

You probably meant TCM (Turner Classic Movies), the sister channel of TBS and TNT. We have Directv and those channels are in the basic package and in fact TCM is now in Hi-Definition (HD). The TMC you mentioned is short for 'The Movie Channel' which is a premium movie channel and is normally an extra charge even on Directv.

Ditto. We get them also; have Direct TV.... A question my husband keeps wondering.......how often do you lose your satellite during the summer thunderstorms???? Talking about Direct TV. A few evenings ago, some strong storms rolled into our area and we lost our satellite for maybe half an hour. This has been a rare occurrence since we signed on with Direct TV over two years ago........leaving Comcast. We like Direct TV for many reasons, but he thinks that in Florida we should switch back to Comcast "cable".....rather than the "satellite". Any good reasons for one or the other? The few times ours went out, it always seems to correct itself....... Thanks in advance. P.S. Sometimes we can retrieve the "signal" by going from High Def down to the regular version of the channel.... |
