I thought his best bit of acting was when he played Mammy in Gone with the Wind.

Default Valdez is Coming...

When "Valdez is Coming", was being filmed in Almeria, Spain, 1970, I was hired as an extra. Between two takes, I approached Burt Lancaster. He had a towering 6’2” presence, confident with a great, big smile, yet he spoke softly. Not quite 60, he still had his handsome, though slightly weathered good looks. We easily connected discovering that we were both Scorpios born just days apart. He had a new age quality, open to talk about anything—consider that he began his career as an acrobat in a circus. I was taken in by his charisma, vitality, and supreme discipline, and could see why Hollywood was enamored with him, producing dozens of flicks in which he starred. I’d also seen him in “From Here to Eternity”—more than once. It has one of the most sizzling beach love scenes of any movie to date, but you all probably know that.
