I also loved it and so did the 8 friends who went along. Great acting and loved the story line!

That was our feeling exactly. we felt that if you were in a couple then it would be really good to see it together. I think that it would be a shame if only the women saw it as I am sure that it would hit all kinds of places for most men of our age and provoke good dialogue. Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep gave such great performances with all kinds of little nuances that really made them believable. Considering what strong women she usually portrays, she did so much just with her looks. And I have to say that Steve Carrell did a great job as the counsellor without any comic overtones. Well balanced all around.

Default How are crowds in Hope Springs?

Anyone see Hope Springs within the last day or so? I was wondering if these shows are still sold out?

This looks like it will be a very popular movie in the Villages for a while.

Default Hope Springs

We had 13 couples from of our Village of Sanibel go this evening to see the movie. Afterwards, we all met up with three other couples and had dinner at Athens NY in Spanish Springs. A good time was had by all!

Makes you wonder why they don't show the popular movies on more than one screen? We saw the movie yesterday in Illinois and the house was also packed. Excellent thought provoking movie. Frankly, I am kind of tired of the so called "action movies" that have little story/script and seem to have the same ol' action scenes over and over again. My wife and I got to discussing later as to how many of our friends and acquaintances we "think" fall into the lifestyles of the two characters portrayed by Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. I said about 50% and my wife thinks it is higher. We both thought it might be a little less in TV. But not much! Instead of a man's time and energy going toward his job, in TV it could be golf, pickleball, woodworking, Classic cars, or some other activity. How many women still look as desirable as Meryl Streep did in this move? Ooops be careful Jim you are getting way out on a limb! What do you think?

Very interesting to read these reviews. On another board, there is a thread on Worst Movies You've Seen. The board is populated by a mix of ages, but mostly 25-45 y/o males. Many of them included Hope Springs as one of the worst movies seen. It would appear our community is the target audience as the subject matter rings true here, and not with a younger crowd.

I was visiting my sister and her family in Cincinnati over Labor Day weekend. I recommended this movie to her -- although my sister and her husband are several years younger than the target age of this movie, they will be experiencing the empty nest syndrome in not too many years down the road.

Default good movie

Went to see Hope Springs not knowing what to expect. My girlfriend's niece's house in Ct. was used for the movie, so I've been hearing about it for almost a year, but only in the context of the house itself. They have sat at that dining room table and used that china, etc.
I thought though that it was a great movie. Both actors were very convincing in roles unlike what they usually play. I think men might have a harder time seeing themselves anything like the husband, but many women can relate to the wife. IMO it was worth seeing.

I'm 71 and I didn't like it. Who cares about the sexual dysfunctionality of the elderly? I would call it a tragedy masquerading as a comedy. It was more tragic than funny. And the fact that so many older people can relate to it just shows that there must be a lot of these tragedies among the elderly.

I was glad to see a movie that featured two "mature" lead roles. I thought it was a hopeful movie, not tragic. Just my 2 cents.

Default No hope for us....

Hubby and I went to see Hope Springs this afternoon. We arrived quite early in SS to walk around. We sat on one of the benches by the fountain for over half hour because from what we could see the line was long and didn't seem to be moving. We figured they weren't selling tickets yet. Then we saw some people going in so we got in line. Someone came out and said the theater was packed and the only seats available were the ones way up front where you have to crank your neck up to see the screen. We decided that we didn't have to see it that bad so we left. I guess we should have got in line when we first got there.

I went to the 5:00pm showing on Friday and there were plenty of empty seats. We sat in the second row from the door and I believe there was a total of three in our row.
