I think it unfair to bring Disney into the argument. That is way over to the other side of the spectrum. There is only the ratings to help us choose. And unfortunately there is R and there is R. Nudity used to be the big deal, now nudity is not such a big deal. Not nearly as offensive as when some lines are crossed that we just haven't seen on screen before. We were born in a different time perhaps, but I have laughed myself silly at some danged funny, bawdy jokes. Some dirty jokes just have to use some not frequently used words sometimes, but stepping into something different sometimes makes us feel like we could use a good bath.

I haven't seen the movie, thought I'd like to. There was another movie that had a lot of bad language that close friends and people I respect on this forum said was a hoot. I can't remember which one but Bosox Fan and Pooh liked the same one. I never got around to seeing it either. Can't remember what it was.

I will keep reading here. This sounds a little over the top for me, and I am a naughty joke teller.
Gracie it is one thing to tell "bawdy" jokes among adults. I am guilty of that also but if we continue to support the decline of decency from Hollywood, then don't be surprised to see our grandchildren "twerking" in public like the spectacle that Miley Cyrus made of herself last week! I definitely am not a prude but I do not think it healthy that our children and grandchildren are exposed to it! Just my opinion! Everyone has a right to their own opinion!

Wendy, I just have to laugh because I remember my mother saying almost exactly the same words about Elvis shaking his pelvis in public. She started by saying "I am definitely not a prude, but this time Elvis has taken it too far ..."

We all agree that Miley Cyrus made a ludicrous spectacle of herself at the Awards Show. She did it to make sure she would be the main topic of conversation all week. Guess who's on the cover of every magazine and the subject of all television gossip shows. Mission accomplished!

That doesn't make it right Bare! As a role model it sends a message to my granddaughters that maybe her behavior is ok. No wonder the Islamist radicals call us " infidels"!

Alas, I still remember when Desi and Lucy had to sleep in twin beds!

Desi was usually in some other female's bed.

I order off the big boy menu now. No more crayons and coloring books from the servers.

Haha, just found out yesterday (wait for it, wait for it, drumroll) I will be a great grandfather in 7 months!

I agree Wendy. There is NO comparison to Disney and the TRASH of today. NOT good role models for kids at all today. Let's send the message to Hollywood by NOT supporting them with our hard earned dollars.

I haven't seen the movie, and not sure I will while it's in the theaters, but for those who have seen the movie and are shocked by what was on the screen, didn't you check reviews of the movie before you paid to see it? In those reviews you would have been made aware of some of the more objectionable aspects of the film.

The movie Gracie, was TED! If you are from MA, it is even funnier, but Ted is an obnoxious bear...not a sweet little cuddly toy. We saw youngsters in the theater with their grandparents....NEVER would I have allowed my grandkids to watch this movie...and the same for WE'RE THE MILLERS.

I do agree that there are some movies that are unacceptable for many....bad language, nudity, violence, glorification of less than honorable lifestyles. If these types of films are not what you want to see, then do not. Find out about what you are going to view. Times have changed, whether we like it or not. We are adults and can make decisions about what we will or will not watch on the screen. Today's parents are responsible for what their children see or do not see, not the movie industry. Some of those questionable movies live a short life, never even breaking even for the studios. This one doesn't seem to be one of them.

I loved The Miller's, The Heat and Ted. I also love The Sound of Music, Big and Back to the Future.

I am very diverse in that way. I was shocked that someone brought a 12 year girl to Ted though.

you know the old saying "money talks"
Nobody is listening to "us" of a certain age. If we stop spending our money, Hollywood won't care or even notice. Seniors are catered to in a very, very few markets (like some of the businesses in The Villages).....Sorry, but we're over the hill and the up and coming 18 year olds rule what makes the movies, clothes, food choices, music piped into the mall.....just to name a few. We had our day, including Elvis !

My kids roll their eyes at me just like I did my mother....well maybe not so much now that they are almost 40 years old...LOL My daughter actually suggested I have my hearing checked because I said I couldn't understand the words of a song on the radio!!

That is the reason I only go to the movies a few times a year. I can not tolerate the vulgar language. I am not a prude, but the f word is so overused in the movies, and on the streets today, as well as in households, that I try to avoid hearing trash talk at all cost.

Oh not sure about us not making an impact. Us Seniors do frequent the movies often. After all, we do have more time and money since our working yrs are behind us. We can make an impact starting with our own children and yes I know what you mean they don't listen. However warning our kids so they can at least beware for our grandchildren would be the right and wise thing to do. Or at least sit with our grandchildren and talk directly to them. We can make a big impact on society. Don't be so willing to throw us under the bus. I have a feeling the movie will "flop" anyway.

Tell us more. Why was it funny?

Someone referred to a bunch of talk about oral sex and we are all adults and understand all that stuff comfortably...but the folks who were supposedly the givers and takers in this situation sounded to be ....a little out of range.

Who says stuff like that to a teen?

I haven't seen it. I think you have a good sense of humor, Bosoxfan...but some things aren't funny to me just because. For instance.... I don't get The Three Stooges. I don't get America's Funniest Home Videos when people really hurt themselves.

What is funny to some and not others is not always a matter of prudery.

Just maybe....for most of us it isn't comfortable or recognizable life experiences?

I don't know. I was never present when in any social situation any female put her hands on the breasts of another female in public.

I saw that clip on a show where Jennifer Anniston was selling the film. THAT was ouchy to me.
