Tom: How could I leave out Good Lovin? Yes, played that one a lot, even in a band I played in a couple of years ago. Lonely Too Long is one of my favorites but never did play it in public. Played a little Animals (We Gotta Get Outa This Place). For some reason never cared for House of RS but played it anyway by demand (That's one of the very first songs I played in a band.). Also like but didn't play Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Suddenly remembered the Zombies (She's Not There). Somewhere I've got reel to reel tapes of us playing the Doors, etc. stuff. Now I've got to learn how to convert them to CD's. Anybody got a good program for that?

Yorio: My interests are too wide to focus sometimes but I can always find something to fit my mood! I haven't seen 'the Commitments' (need to do that) but their version of Mustang Sally I do have and really like it (in fact, I'm going to play the CD right now). One of the best I seen in person is Hector Oliveria from Brazil and Bob Ralston of Lawrence Welk fame and like to listen to Joann Castle of that show playing her honky tonk piano. I've seen the Allman Brothers when they were the Allman Joys; Jimi Hendrix as opening band for the Monkees in Jacksonville, FL and well as Jimi in New Orleans; was on stage helping with 3 Dog Night concert and met Hoyt Axton who performed and wrote some of their songs; saw Ike and Tina Turner; performed on stage as dual act with the Grassroots; performed with members of Wet Willie band before they formed that group; saw Doctor John from New Orleans and probably a few others that memory is not recalling just now. Have recorded in Nashville at an old famous defunct studio called Bradley's Barn. I like the powerful sounds of theatre pipe organs and have helped restore 2 Robert Mortons in Saenger Theatres but these days at home I play simple stuff for my own amusement as well as restore old Hammond organs and Leslie speakers for them. I'd like to get in a 50's/60's R&R band when I get to TV. It's hard these days to find venues of people who like to dance to the older music. Seems TV might just be the place! How do I pick one influence? Heck, I forget the question.

I've been in rock and pop bands since the mid-60's, including starting a few with people who are talented but never played or sang the 50-60 rock genre. When I get to TV, I would like to start a club called something like The Villages Rock & Pop Orchestra and Chorus to give people of all expereince levels the chance to experience playing and singing the music of the 50's-early 70's in front of an audience. My vision is that it could include brass and who knows maybe even some strings for some numbers. Maybe I've found my organist!

I was watching the movie "Standing in the Shadows" about the legendary back up Motown band The Funk Brothers.A singer named Joan Osborne sang the old Jimmy Ruffin song "What Becomes of The Broken Hearted" My reaction WOW.Said the same thing when I heard Joan Baez sing Amazing Grace and Allison Krauss sing anything.WOW and double WOW!

Somewhere on one of these threads someone mentioned they were a drummer. Only thing left is a bass player for a basic combo!
Add some brass, then strings and we could play all types.
Unless we're consistantly playing, none of us are a good as we once were!

Good thought, Tom. I'll have to play around with the name a little. Everyone, what are your suggestions? Let's get those creative juices flowing! Somebody let Gracie Girl, Boomer, Fumar, and the rest of the crazy people know about this thread, and let's get some band name ideas! By the way, we will be visiting the Villages Jan 18 -20. If anyone is around we would love to get together for a drink and to talk some music! CaptJohn, have you heard a pianist named Danny Wright? Plays mostly standards, broadway,etc, and has a wonderful touch.

Just had to bring this old post of mine back as we went to see a great show yesterday at Lecanto which is near Inverness. This group is playing all around near TV during February and March at Leesburg, Inverness, and Ocala. I would consider this high end Cruise Line theatre show and if you like 50s, 60s pop, country and rock n' roll, the 2 1/2 hour show will bring back memories. Check them out YouTube.com/user/24KgoldMUSICshow or search 24K Gold Music. For wannabes and gonna bees--there are lots of clubs here in TV. We joined the French Club and a volunteer arranged a bus and a 60 strong group were able to see the show plus having dinner at Stumpknocker's in Inverness. Many clubs will have volunteers arranging trips like this. So, come to TV. if anyone wants to know the show schedule, call toll free 1-866-884-0291. We enjoyed the show thoroughly.

When I moved here I was excited to be back in Florida,...then, to my pleasant surprise I started running into all kinds of working and retired musicians down here,...little did I realize The Villages was fast becoming the entertainment capital of Central Florida.....life is good,...I've got buds I play music with every week,...a lot of fun.

The opportuniy to perform is a major reason we are coming as well (as soon as we can sell the house in VA!). Graytop, maybe you and your friends will let me sit in once in a while? I play a Gretsch like George's. OK, it looks like George's but is a less expensive model. By your picture, I'm guessing you play the Bass! The question is, do you play it left handed???? The last band I put together had a left handed bass player, but he played a Rickenbacker, not the Hofner.
