Default looking for New England Oceanside/cliff side place to stay

We have always talked about a place to visit/stay on a property that overlooks the ocean. Some where that one can hear the ocean "crashing" on the rocks.

Looking for B&B or resort or hotel or rental.

Suggestions from experience? Other?

BTK, have you tried ****.com? We have used them for years. We even chartered (rented) a sailboat on Lake Michigan through ****, plus apartments in Florida, France, Italy, & Spain. Stands for Vacation Rental By Owner. They are very reliable owners who have vacation rentals.

Another site is through Trip Adviser, called Flip Key, which we've also used successfully. Then there's Home Away, which I believe is now owned by either **** or Flip Key.

Your vacation idea sounds lovely.

i couldn't agree more with the Cliff House. Ogunquit is a beautiful town with some amazing restaurants, art galleries and shops. I'm getting homesick for NE now. Enjoy

I have had a summer home at Great Island for over thirty years. Some of my neighbors do rent their homes. It's on a beautiful beach in the heart of Cape Cod. Here is the rental link. We are on the sound side of the Cape so the water is warm. Good luck.

You might like Boothbay Harbor, Maine. We have spent several vacations at Browns Wharf Hotel in Boothbay and the actual town of Boothbay is just delightful. You can walk over the causeway into the little town, plenty of shopping, plenty of places for food, and several "eat in the rough" lobster restaurants. You can also take trips out of the harbor. Love to be there right now!

I should have included this in my other post - Anywhere on the water in summer is going to be wall to wall people, and Maine is right at the top of the list of wall to wall people - you might think about taking some time immediately after labor day when the children go back to school etc. It is much quieter, much less expensive, and the weather is just gorgeous.

I seriously don't think you are going to have much luck finding a place to stay on the ocean at this point in time. Mostly they are booked a year in advance. Start planning for next summer

Default Maine Coast Inns

Another beautiful spot in York Beach,Maine is the Viewpoint Inn. It overlooks the Nubble Light House and not very far to walk to Fox's Restaurant or Brown's Ice Cream. The beach at Long Sands is beautiful and lots of stores in the village of York to explore. The York Harbor Inn, Stageneck Inn and the Cliff House also great places to stay. Lived near that part of the seacoast for many years and really miss its' beauty ! Relax and enjoy any of the above places and as stated above, after Labor Day it is easier to get reservations unless doing so far in advance.

The Cliff House in Cape Neddick, ME is beautiful. There is an 18 hole golf course across the street along with tennis etc. It is directly on the ocean. A little pricey but you will hear the waves crashing on the rocks. Cape Neddick is between York and Ogunquit. Google it as Cliff House, Maine.

Also, there is the Stage Neck Inn in York, Maine. But, I believe the rooms are off to the side of the ocean front restaurant. If you stay at the Stage Neck Inn you must have dinner at the York Harbor Inn, just a short walk from the Inn. Again, a little pricey but worth it. I'm from Portsmouth, NH which is over the border from Maine.

Have a wonderful trip.
