My grandmother fixed something for me when I was sick... Hot sweet tea with milk poured over toast in a bowl. When I want something to take the sting out of life for me and my family, I fix one of their favorites; salmon patties with ketchup, peas and a baked potato. If it has been an awful day then the only cure is homemade tart cherry pie. Last edited by graciegirl; 01-22-2009 at 07:15 AM. |

Comfort Food
I would say all of the above sound great. My mom used to make milk toast for my dad when he didn't feel well, but I don't ever remember eating it.
Our local diner makes the best mac and cheese. I like to have it with stewed tomatoes. It's in a heavy white sauce with cheese, and is so creamy and good.

Comfort food is anything that tastes good. By definition, it is almost always unhealthy. Oh well!

Comfort food is a gallon of rocky road icecream and a spoon.

Comfort food is almost anything that make you wistfully think of Mom.
Meatloaf, potatoes and gravy?, yes; Lasagna?, yes; but for me especially it's tripe soup with crusty bread. |

When I was a kid, my favorite comfort foods were homemade Toll House cookies-- regular, frozen or the dough-- or vanilla wafers topped with peanut butter. Did anyone else put peanut butter on vanilla wafers?
Now, soft, hot breads. Ice cream. Dark chocolate. Comfort meal -that's italian. Comfort drink-- red, red wine. Or a frozen concotion. Comfort holiday-- Well this is one of them. |

Yes, anything that someone else prepares, sets in front of me, and cleans up afterward. That's comfort food to me!

No way.....
I saw a picture of Mr & Mrs Boomer dancing at a wedding they attended and believe me, there's no way that Paula Dean could ever lure Mr Boomer away from the lovely Mrs Boomer; no, not even if Mrs Boomer doesn't have that Southern accent and staff of chefs that PD has. Just will never happen.
Boomer, me thinks thou protesth......real drama fer shure y'all.... Just foolin' wit ya girlfriend; you're the best and Mr B knows it too. Hugs, barb aka Skuppy Garfield Oh yes, on topic: "comfort food" ......yum yum to it all.

About a year ago I was with some friends at family-owned gift shop/ restaurant near Atlanta that served fabulous corn chowder. My friend Barbara said she had an excellent recipe for corn chowder. I said, "Me too. Come here. Order it." |

Hahaha! PTurner, that's my kind of home cooking.
What a great response! May I use that? People are always telling me about their great recipes, but my fridge is stocked with 'to go' boxes.. I mean seriously, with so many wonderful restaurants here, we eat at home about once a week so we can clear all the boxes out of the fridge.
