Mine goes 21mph max and I stop all the time! Stopping really fast may be an issue but that's why you need to be aware of your environment and expect the unexpected. If say a tree limb falls in front of you or a car comes at you I think that you will stop even quicker.

Now for that definitive answer:

You can only be ticketed by the police in your golf golf cart if you are on a public street. The multi-modal trails are NOT public streets. On public streets, the speed limit for non-street legal carts is 20 mph.

Default Don't be 2 sure

If a trap is on a path and your going over 20 mph u may not get a speeding ticket but u can get an unregistered motor vehicle ticket. Whose going to argue with the officer and tell him he can't I've been passed on paths and my cart is legal 20MPH.

I agree. How else can you explain police golf carts patrolling the cart paths. I am still trying to get the connection between "your retired" and so "why are you in a hurry"???? Beside which how does one define "in a hurry" I mean while I wait for my wife to get ready for a night out she says that to me too"Why are you rushing me what's the hurry" My response is OK I read war and peace again while you get ready

From the VCCDD Minutes:

Valerie Fuchs, District Counsel, advised the Board that Florida Statute Chapter 190 does not provide the District with law enforcement authority. Ms. Fuchs stated jurisdiction for law enforcement of the streets, highways and roads is vested within the counties or cities in which the roads lie, which for District 3 is held by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). In response to the question raised whether the SCSO could assist the District by enforcing speeding violations that occur on the multimodal paths along Buena Vista Boulevard, Ms. Fuchs advised, because the multi-modal paths do not meet the definition under Florida Statute Chapter 316 as a road, street or highway, the SCSO has no jurisdiction to enforce violations on the multi-modal paths that exist on District property. Valerie Fuchs further stated the District cannot enter into an Interlocal Agreement with the SCSO to provide for the law enforcement of those multi-modal paths along Buena Vista Boulevard because the District does not have law enforcement ability to grant to the SCSO. Ms. Fuchs advised the District does have the
authority to place control mechanisms such as speed bumps or humps along the multi-modal paths to control speed if it so chose to do so.

Thank you for posting. It cannot be any plainer than that.

I can think of many things that can be done by the district to help control golf cart speed without speed bumps.

Work with the Sheriff to measure the cart speed on the path and wait for the cart to cross a county road. If I'm not mistaken the offense would still be driving an illegal cart on a county road.

The district could just ban the driver or the cart from private property and ask the sheriff to assist with a trespass order.

Publish the names and pictures in the Sun of the speeders.

Ban speeders from the golf reservation system.

If speed bumps are installed the only winners will be the cart towing and repair services.

Lets really crack down on outlaws that are driving 22 mph in a golf cart. I suggest pull all law enforcement officers that are on patrol for red light runners and school zone speeders, and use them to patrol the streets looking for fast golf carts. If we assign priorities we don't really need officers covering armed robbery and rape when we have golf carts flying around at 22 mph. We also could have the SWAT team members doing a more meaningful job watching golf carts. Seriously now, how much harm is done by a golf cart driving 2 mph over the limit? Does it endanger you? Does it bother you that he passes you? Would someone please give me a good answer. I'd hate to call the police because my home is being broken into and have a response delay because the cop was hiding behind a tree looking for a fast golf cart. A lot of people have it in their head that once a law is written that it is the way it should be. What if the law said that golf carts could go 25mph? Now going 22 mph wouldn't be a problem would it? Perfectly safe now.

I assume the accident happened on a county owned road, why wouldn't the sheriff be called?
Where is this sheriffs golf cart riding the multi-model path?
