Some post only when they have a problem. I would not consider that negative.

However, when a person who rarely posts or posts for the first time, receives back UNDUE criticism or jokes when they are really serious, I consider that negative. And yet, if we stop people from being who they are and limit speech...we don't gain. We also can't pinpoint the ones we can ignore when we see their post.

Probably, but that's because we know the score. I tried reading it from the perspective of a newbie who may have just made one of the most important decisions of their lives, and could see where a little instant panic might have set in.

I have a theory regarding the habitual complainers --

"Some people are miserable if they wake up and have nothing to complain about!"

Best decision I ever made in moving to TV.

Sometimes people in a rush don't express themselves fully and that leads to miscommunication.

I agree to general tone on TOTV has become more negative and have comemplated leaving the forum several times.

One advantage to being on the forum for awhile, is knowing who kids around and who doesn't. Like some said, we tend to know the score and it's players.

I think you are a great addition to this forum sir. A little humor sometimes has to be explained once in awhile, Sometimes more to blondes...sometimes not.

Incoming.

Don't you mean "usually" to blondes? I get to say that since I'm married to one.

I think post number 14 hit the nail on the head.

All too often when ANYBODY either disagrees with something or offers a difference of opinion or expresses another preference it is viwed as "negative".

When it is not. It is only natural.

I hope I am allowed to put my two cents in even though I have only stayed in TV for a few weeks. Actually, my wife has spent two winters in TV. While I haven’t counted my exact number of days in TV, I do believe it has been more than a couple of weeks. How long does it take to know TV?

I would hope to not scare interested parties into thinking that they really need to spend years learning the place before deciding to move here. It’s no Shangri-La. But Shangri-La is a fictional place. As I purchase a house here last year, it must not be too bad of a place to live.

Too negative? Too positive? Or just about right?

It is the OP here. So i agree that almost everyone here is gloriously happy or close to it.
Why do so many use totv to snivel and whine?
I do not know!
But I remember a linguistics course where the yiddish "kvetch" was introduced in a study
Whose results implied that complaining is the most frequent thing we do!

Some more stuff on the topic...

This is where you are wrong. It IS Shangra-la. Maybe even Shangra-la la la.

My deal is that one needs to stay awhile before the campaigns to affect change. I love this place exactly the way it is. Some people would like to have a better political balance, but I am on the side that has more so it is great with me.

I think you will be the dandiest villager there is Two Plane Kid. You come from a great town in a great state and have a great name. You have a great family and two airplanes. We just don't need to change the speed limit on the golf carts for starters.

It is Shangri – La as I just purchased a 1942 map of it. It’s a place that Roosevelt said Doolittle Raiders flew from to bomb Tokyo in 1942. Really, I will have the map in a few days.

Yes, I will always try to advocate examining things to look for improvements to those things. That doesn’t mean that they should be changed.

As they say in Cuba "two men looking out behind bars one sees the ground the other the stars".....or "pal did you bother to notice the bars, the bars? "

I posed this question once long ago when I felt the negativity and someone sent me a private message to take these things with a grain of salt. With a population of over 100,000 it's like any other community--some people will find stuff to complain about but most here are happy and loving life. I've now lived here 2 years and if I find negative people, I avoid them....with over 2000 clubs and activities it easy to do.

so don't worry--come on down.
