Carts are limited to 20 mph. All speed limit signs are for registered vehicles including the little orange "20 mph" sign at the diamond lane merge points. Some registered vehicles don't throttle back to 20 mph at the merge points but most do. Don't count on it.

bsloan....you probably should go to the golf cart safety clinic ( or anyone else who has not attended) given every month at Colony Cottage Rec Center. It's free and you will be getting correct information about driving a golf cart. It just may save your life and the lives of your loved ones. Speeding tickets are expensive.

I agree with you and will add something. Who cares if someone is going faster than you, even if they are "criminals" for "breaking the law" (a capital offense if ever I saw one ). In fact, I can't understand why many, even on this thread, get their undies in a bunch because somebody's cart is faster, or they get passed. On a few occasions I've (safely) passed somebody going 11, and they yelled all kinds of obscenities, even though they were leading a parade of 10+carts, all of which eventually passed him.

But carts are really no different than the highways in this regard: The faster car, or "criminal speeder" (ones not executed yet), passes you and they are gone---you don't have to deal with them. On the other hand, it is the slow driver who causes the most problems. People make half-arsed moves to get around them. On the turnpike they change 2 lanes into one and back up traffic (and are usually camped out in the left lane going 50). On I 75 they change 3 lanes into 2 with the same result. And if you search law enforcement and insurance sites, you'll find it is the slow driver, not the speeder that causes more accidents. They might not be INVOLVED in that accidents, but they are the proximate CAUSE.

Oh, back to my reply: There's no excuse for tailgating. Pass or drop back.

Golf carts in the villages that are serviced and maintained by The Villages Golf Cars can have their governor raised and adjusted to 25mph. If it wasn’t legal here, I doubt they would do this.

Golfing eagles-I agree with you. The slow drivers in a golf cart are probably the same slow drivers you see driving in the left/fast lane. These same people get passed on the right but refuse to move to the slower lane for some unknown (mental) reason.
People don’t understand it’s not the speed that kills you it’s the stupid driving that people have to do to get around thes slugs.
In Germany, if you are in the fast lane on the autobahn going 150mph and you see a car approaching, you have to pull over, not the car going 200mph. If you don’t, you get a hefty fine or drivers license revoked. You can’t pass on the right in Germany, nor are you allowed to flash your brights to tell the person to move over. We should have these same laws here.
I think I’ve taken most turns on the golf cart paths here at 20mph (except a few 90 degree turns) with no issues of tipping over. I have also been on these same paths behind a golf cart driver doing the turns at 10mph. What’s really funny about the slow golf cart drivers and slow car drivers is that they don’t want you to pass them. Hey go so slow around the turns or straights that you can’t pass, but once you get a passing lane or a long straight, they sped up so you can’t pass.
We all have to be somewhere at a certain time and none of us any to leave an hour earlier because you might have to ride behind someone going really slow.
If you have people behind you either on the road or on a mpp, move over so they can pass, and if you are slow in a car, don’t drive in the left lane

When driving long distance, speed matters. Even in a golf car.

Actually, we do. Florida law states that on roads posted over 60 mph, a car in the left lane that is being overtaken from behind MUST move over. Even if one is going 90, and the car behind wants to go 100, you MUST move over. Why???? Because you don't have any idea why that guy is going that fast---he may be a jerk, but he might be in the middle of an emergency. The point is that you DON'T KNOW, and it is not up to YOU to dictate his speed to him, that's why we have LEOs. That's existing law. There is also a pending law that would make it illegal to just cruise in the left lane when not passing anyone, regardless of speed. Again, it baffles me why so many, even on this site, think of them as self-appointed guardians of the speed limit. When someone wants to pass, just let them. I get passed all the time, and sometimes pass others. It's no big deal.

PS: Florida law also states that when you are getting passed, it is illegal to speed up to prevent it. You MUST maintain your same speed until the other vehicle has passed you. For all those self-appointed LEOs, I'd love to see enforcement of the laws I just stated above.
