Default Pipe incident on square

I was referring to the comment suggesting that we pack a gun on the square. That was a stupid comment, the injured guy could be maimed for life.

If you are not in The Villages, you would not understand how the Orlando Sentinel has such a dislike for The Villages.

A violent crime such as someone being beaten by a lead pipe at Lake Sumter Landing in our peaceful community would have been spotlighted on both the newspaper in Orlando and on television in Orlando.

Why don't you just call the Sheriff's Office or Police Dept that has jurisdiction of the area in question and ask, out of concern for public safety, what happened? Lay all the speculation to rest.

packing a gun on the square? reminds me of the old All in the Family episode where Archie suggests the flight attendants pass out guns as passengers board to prevent hijackings

Default Hello

Salybow was there, she should not be doubted. I repeat Salybow was there!

Tons of things happen everyday that don't make the paper. The Sun is really just for helping sales.

Orlando Sentinel doesn't have reporters in here.

There is good media and there is media to sell houses.

I have had my picture in the Sun about 20 times. Sometimes two or three pictures in the same issue.(sports)
In the beginning we use to cut the picture out and save them. Now that everyone we know has had at least one picture in the paper, its no big deal.
The Sun reporters are at the clubs, sport events,( however they never report anyone getting seriously hurt which happens) celebrations at the square etc. In our years here we have seen a ton of car accidents and never once did I see a reporter.

I just have to say that most news is passed by people being there. It is not like any paper I have ever seen before. By the way, look for me in the paper for stomping down divits at half time during the polo game. There was a reporter there for that.

Larry pegged it with "There is good media and there is media to sell houses." When I write check for the Sun I cringe and say "Oh another donation to the sales media of the developer. I'd hope that this sort of sales media overhead would have been included in the price of the property, as is the usual and normal modes operande, but not in The Villages, you just keep giving.

If I were a rich retired newspaper person with unlimited funding I'd bring on some competition, but fat chance....

I do get good exercise by taking it to the garage to prepare for putting out with the trash.

How would your Washington Post handle this? I think you are right. Your Post wd have headlined it also.
All this aside, as Russ from Boston asked and I agree... WHAT Happened?

I like the paper and think it does a good job for what it is. If I want bad news I go online to the city and state that I came from and then I'm grateful to be here. Don't like the paper, then don't buy it. I think the New York Times is fish wrap, so I do not buy it.

Talking Agree

I agree the paper serves it's purpose and the NY Times is a fish wrapper..
If the developer wants his own paper and TV station that is certaintly his
option. He also has the VHA so he has a number of ways to communicate
and the POA Bulletin is meant to bring independent knowledge to the
residents and it does it very well. As far as "crime" is concerned for those
considering moving to The Villages it would be appropriate to realize the population is now around 85,000 and there was an alleged assualt at a
square. I call that a pretty darn safe place to live. Where else do you know of a city of 85,000 that has a single assualt and it receives a number of comments in the local Talk of the Villages. We have gone to the squares
(just drive cart aound them) about 4-5 times a week in the evening and
I don't recall seeing any disturbance. Where else in a city of 85,000 is it
so safe a woman could walk around at midnight and be pretty safe?
It is a great place to live and we owe the Developer some appreciation for
the work he and his staff have done.

Wow, I think this is the first time you and me have agreed. I am feeling faint.

It hit the Daily Sun this morning. According to the article, the victim does not remember what happened and the police are asking for eye witnesses to come forward.

Police were called at 9:32 Saturday evening at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Canal...(right on the square) I just read it too. He is a 41 year old man from Summerfield. He was taken to Leesburg Hospital with head injuries, was found semi concious lying in the middle of the street with a crowd around him.

I am betting it was someone who didn't pay their drug money. I can't think why else someone would jump out of a vehicle and whack someone on the head.

What do you think?

Wonder why it took so long to appear?
