Now Hedoman, I always agree with you, but at this point what else could be said?? Journalism students all know speculation isn't allowed. If he had been there, (the writer) than he could have reported what people saw. ....Or what they speculated. At this point what else can be said? He was wearing an earring and was heavily tattooed and had on droopy shorts? (For the record, I just made that part up)

Then I would have jumped to conclusions....

Hedo? When are you coming by to see us?? I know. When you get a little more unpacked?

As usual.

I am betting it was someone who didn't pay their drug money. I can't think why else someone would jump out of a vehicle and whack someone on the head.

What do you think?

Wonder why it took so long to appear?

Graciegirl I made mention in an earlier post that the incident was drug related. After hearing the bit about the victim not recalling I am convinced it was drug related. It seems that the surrounding areas are a hot bed of drug related activity. If I am wrong you know by the guy's response that something of a dubious nature occurred .

I am gld that the Daily Sun at least made mention of this event. The Daily sun has an obligation to keep its readers informed and thus aware of safety issues so that they can better protect themselves. By this I do not mean carrying a gub but just being aware that bad actors do exist among us and we all nee to stay alert.

Anybody know if there are security cameras in that area? If so I'm sure the Investigators are having a field day with this one. And if no cameras, how come?

In public areas you can and IMO should have them. But then I lean towards law enforcement and deterrents.

In another thread regarding "concealed weapon permits", there were several posters who indicated they always carried their pistols while in The Villages at night. What kind of chaotic damage would have been caused if one of those "loose cannons" (no pun intended) had been there and started opening fire?

Just curious as to why the injured was taken to Leesburg instead of The Villages hospital. Lack of insurance, trauma unit?

Cool

I guess there's 2 issues that bubble up for me, concerning this incident:
  1. It happened in "our" town square.
  2. It appears to be a "targeted" assault; rather than "Random".
Not sure I need to know all the details, but I certainly hope this was isolated incident.

posh 08 Very good question. Video cameras are vital in deterring crime and also in the investigation of criminal acts. We witness all the time on television. More and more businesses are become aware of the importance of utilizing videos to protect their employees, customers and assets

Did it happen or did it not I am so confused !!!!
The orlando sentinel hates TV --Why --- do you think they are jealous ? WHY WHY
The sun calls itself a newpaper --BS--All the wonderful news thats fit to print
Yes there are some of us TOTVs who carry our guns-ALL THE TIME -
When you run short on Kool-aide - there are some TOTVs who will help
Just think were no first time posters to disbelieve
If someone posted that they had called the PD and this was there response ---
its would still be third hand - so maybe the PD could post on TOTV -- but that would not be belived - it really is not the PD or this is there first post -unbelievable
Just keep drinking the Kool-Aide and keep looking through rose colored glasses
Life is just a bowl or cherries

This type of thing is why The Villages no longer allows New Years Eve gatherings at either square. It use to be a great time had by all, but then you get a couple of idiots with club, guns and a fist added to the evening and poof there went out New Years Eve gatherings. What a shame. We also have a great deal of drug use here in The Villages, legal and not legal. So for those of you who think Spanish Springs Square and the new Brownswood Square are or will bring in the creeps from the outside, this happened at SL.
