ONE post from someone who said they purchased something for their dog (nowhere did the poster say the dog ate it there on the patio - that would be against the rules of the restaurant at this time) does not make it a FACT. The Villages location clearly states NO DOGGIE DINING at this restaurant. I don't assume everything posted on a message board is accurate. If I did, I would have believed the 7 month old email someone posted last month to make it look like a government official had opined on Square 1, when in fact they weren't even in business when that email was written. And on April 15, you wrote: Never stops, I'm done, do whatever, unless they are following all these requirements which they are not they are breaking Florida State law...EVEN IF THEY HAVE A PERMIT So apparently you don't know IF THEY HAVE A PERMIT. |

Thank you, jayhawk. I think there is one other restaurant in TV that has the proper permits to allow dogs on their patio. I think it's Red Sauce. Or Cody's. Hopefully there will be more.
There are many restaurants in the Keys that have allowed this for years. Shoot, we were told by staff to bring our first golden inside one time at The Fish House in Key Largo, because it was too hot outside. They put us in a little out-of-the-way alcove booth. I'm sure it wasn't legal, but that's the Keys for ya.They are their own little kingdom. Key West is full of dog-patio-friendly restaurants, and in the six winters we spent there, we never heard a complaint in the newspaper or on a forum. It was just accepted practice. Allowing pets on patios is a legal possibility in FL. A restaurant just has to apply for the permits. People will either get used to it or go elsewhere, but I don't think it will cause any of them to go out of business. The hotel industry has been forward thinking on this issue. It used to be impossible to find a hotel that accepts pets. People insisted on traveling with their pets. Lowes Hotels started out accepting pets, delivering a mat and bowls, a menu, and a goodie bag to your room. It was called Lowes Loves Pets. Hilton soon followed. The less expensive hotels started falling in line. Money talks. We will go where they are accepted, as will millions of others. Frankly, we leave our 90-lb dog at home, for his own comfort, not anybody else's. He gets too hot outside in close quarters. But he would be among the best behaved dogs there. And he would love the chicken and steamed broccoli. Someday we might have a smaller dog, and then look out!

Just can't seem to want to follow the laws. It was totally accurate since Wildwood has not decided to issue permits even to this date. Get a permit, abide by the requirements of the permit then no one should have a problem, don't see why that is so complicated. Really need to check your facts better, they were in business well before April 18th and even before a dog is allowed on the patio a permit is required which could not have happened since Wildwood has not decided to issue permits even at this time. No reason not to believe the poster that stated she/he took their dog there the night before since she/he is a fan of the doggie menu. 04-18-2014, 11:46 PM Dianedabb Dianedabb is offline Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2013 Posts: 5 Default We went to Square 1 Burger last night with our dog. We dined outside and we had wonderful dinner, our dog , had chicken patty with fresh broccoli for 2.99. Yes, they do have the cutest Doggie menu . In my opinion the food was excellent but a little salty and we just loved the idea that we can bring our dog.

I have never met a stupid dog, just stupid owners. And they are few and far between in The Villages. That being said the worst case scenario is a stupid owner bringing his dog to a restaurant and subjecting him to second hand smoke.

Yes, they were in business before April 18, but they were NOT in business 7 months earlier when the email you posted to support your position was originally written. Probably just an oversight on your part. Now that is a fact. At your suggestion, I verified it ! |

Now that is a fact. At your suggestion, I verified it Maybe now you can verify they (still) don't have a permit as Wildwood hasn't even met to decide whether to issue them or not...and the permit has to come from Wildwood. Still say all is OK, maybe another oversight. May 12th , 2014 News Article you can Google it still if you desire. http://www.**************.com/square...ng-restaurant/ Square 1 Burgers seeks approval for ‘doggie dining’ at its restaurant May 12, 2014 By Meta Minton 81 Comments Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Pinellas Plaza. Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Pinellas Plaza. Square 1 Burgers & Bar wants to offer “doggie dining” on the patio of the new restaurant in Pinellas Plaza in The Villages. To do so, the restaurant must first persuade the Wildwood City Commission to approve an ordinance permitting dogs to dine alongside restaurant patrons. It would be a first in the city of Wildwood. “I don’t understand it, but I know it’s getting popular,” said Wildwood Mayor Ed Wolf. The idea of an ordinance was presented to commissioners Monday night by Jason McHugh, Wildwood’s development services coordinator. He said it is his understanding that other Square 1 Burgers locations offer doggie dining, including a special menu for canines. The commissioners were open to the idea of an ordinance and will consider the measure at a future meeting.

It doesn't have to come from ANYONE since they are located in Wildwood, Sumter County. This was verified in the last thread on this same topic: To refresh your memory - The state of Florida leaves it to each local government to decide whether they will require any kind of permit. Neither the City of Wildwood or Sumter County require one. There is a requirement to post the health, safety, and general welfare rules so patrons can read them (I made a large 11"x17" sign that should be on display on the patio), but that is the only requirement. I'm including a link to the Sumter County Code of Ordinances that directly addresses the issue of dogs in public food establishments. There is a lot of information in there, but what we discovered in all of my conversations with the city and the county is that at the very end of the ordinance (section d) the requirements for a permit expired in July of 2009. DIVISION 3. SALES AND SERVICES I appreciate your interest in standing up for the dogs, we think it's a great thing for people to be able to bring them out with them—now if I could only bring my cats . . . ! Have a good afternoon and please let me know if you have any other Jarrod Dyer Director of Communication and Special Projects Square 1 Burgers & Bar o 813.902.3717 m 646.246.8049 So, they can't very well violate a law that does not exist. Look, we are beating a dead horse. S1 is legally operating a business. If you don't approve of it, don't go there. I don't like Greek food so I generally don't go to Greek restaurants. But if I did go, I sure wouldn't gripe about their food. IT IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES. Isn't that a great thing? ![]() |

Since you insist here is some more recent information from Mr. Holly that shows Mr. Dyer was totally mistaken in his statements and possibly explains why they are now trying to get the permit from Wildwood that has been required all along.. Quote: Karl E. Holley, AICP, CFM Director of Development Services Sumter County Board of Commissioners 7375 Powell Road Wildwood, Florida 34785 (352) 689-4463 www.sumtercountyfl.gov "There seems to be a bit of confusion on the part of the parties involved. The first clarification that needs to be made is that the subject business is located within the corporate limits of the City of Wildwood, and is therefore not subject to the Sumter County Land Development Code. The second is that Section 509.233 of the Florida Statues simply provides for a local exemption from the Federal Food and Drug Administration Food Code, which has been adopted in its entirety by the State of Florida. The FDA food code prohibits non-service animals in the dining areas of food service establishments which are subject to the Code. F.S. 509.233 is still completely in effect, but had it been allowed to expire, it would NOT have authorized restaurants to allow dogs in food services areas without permits; it would have prohibited local governments from exempting restaurants from the requirements of the Food Code. I do not know if the City of Wildwood has adopted "code provisions" which would establish a process for the implementation of the local exemption, but if they have not, the presence of dogs in any of Square 1’s dining areas would be prohibited by Florida Statute".
