I assume you can get in trouble for going 20.1, but what is the lowest speed anyone has ever been pulled over for? 21, 22, 23??

Lowest ticket I know of was 16 MPH in a 10 MPH zone near La Hacienda Pool & Rec Center on Mother's Day Morning to a refined Grandmother Type, you know white hair and happy disposition. One of the far too many posts on this subject showed that there is a golf cart safety presentation at the Savannah center every third weds of each month. I would of course confirm this before going but that would be the place to get the RIGHT answers.

In the 4 and the half years we've lived in the villages on the off chance there was a LEO running radar on Morse never been pulled over for running 20.5, 21.5, 22.5. In our golf cart. Not saying it could not happen tomorrow but golf cart speeding discussion is only one of many over blown subjects on TO TV like little white crosses, restaurant gripes, dog poop.

The realities of golf cart speeding. Of all the critical issues that residents have to deal with on a daily basis a continual focus on this subject seems that some folks are just well bored.

Laws and rules speak to safety issues and order. I understand and concur. However not all rules and laws are reasonable or reasonably applied in all situations. The reality of golf cart speeding is that the subject matter is overblown and overly discussed.

It would appear that if golf cart safety is the issue perhaps a discussion of the golf cart driver's fitness mental/physical ought to be the prime concern ..again DISTRACTIONS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE FOR VEHICULAR ACCIDENTS

We all know the answer is rarely.

BUT over the past decade, I have lost track but it is upwards of 15 people have been killed here in The Villages due to Golf cart accidents. Many, many more have been badly injured.

I think there is a number of reasons for any motor vehicle accidents and being distracted is one. Drinking and driving is another. Age can be sited, but so can the fact that many people are driving golf carts with really poor driving skills. Some people have moved here and rarely drove a car in their past life.. Some people think they are above observing stop signs and some drive carelessly and selfishly.

I personally may harm a golf cart driver if I see another kid throw their drink cup out. Oh Lord, I sound old.

Our experience is that people driving golf carts while using cell phones and people driving too slow are both more dangerous than speeding. Most golf carts, ours included, are governed to not go over 20 MPH. If people could just put down their phones and drive the speed limit!

From 2011 to 2016 I had my Yamaha set up to run up to 25mph and I had a speedometer. Only twice in all that time I saw the police with a radar gun looking for golf carts. That was at least 2 years ago, they were parked in the driveway of the pump house on Cane Garden by the green to the second hole on Alamanda. They could hide somewhat behind vegetation and shoot their radar down Baileys Trail.

I found out that a Yamaha runs smoothest at 22mph, but I decided it wasn't worth all the risk for such a small reward. In 2016 I set my cart back to 19 mph and I really can't tell all that much difference in getting to the courses. While playing golf on the course, I would never need to really go over 20 mph. So for everyone who speeds, save yourself the aggravation and dial it back.

So if you see this guy, he's only going 20mph.

LE and the safety presentation will tell you that you can be pulled over for anything over 20, but the reality is that 99% of the time they're not going to bother you if you're going under 5mph or less over the limit. The reason for this is that the law stipulates that a golf cart is not supposed to be capable of going over 20 mph, but that doesn't take into consideration downhill. If they ticket you for going 22 and you can show that you were going downhill, the case will most likely be thrown out.

Also, and I get this from my father who spent 25 years in law enforcement. If a cop takes you to court for going a few miles an hour over the judge will often scold the officer for wasting his time. There is also something in the law about going over the limit for a certain distance. In other words, if you're going 20 and you suddenly get up to 23 for 50 yards, you're not going to get stopped.

Generally, if a cop sees that you're making an effort to slow down he's not going to bother you unless you're acting like an idiot. By that, I mean excessive changing lanes, tailgating, and other such unsafe practices. If you're zipping in and out of lanes and you're only going 5mph over, there's a good likelihood that you'll get pulled over and charged with more than speeding.

It would be interesting to know how many Auto tragic accidents have occurred in the last few years at the Villages versus Golf Carts. One can surmise that those who speed while driving a car will also speed while in their cart. All deaths are terrible but I'm curious if there have been more while driving a golf cart as opposed to driving a car here.

At times I do not agree with Gracie... but in this post, she is right on point. I have recently purchased a GEM Cart. Has regular road use plates... must be insured with your
standard Automobiles.. Max speed 25 mph. Used throughout The Villages.. No problem law enforcement if normal road rules followed. I must say many Villagers are
in a very much of a hurry on the regular traveled golf cart paved areas.. You have heard this before. Nothing will help you. Many must pee on the electric fence themselves
don't take anyones word for it!

Most fatalities in TV from my memory of the last 10 years have been car/cart accidents and the fatality was in the golf cart. I believe distraction and medical emergency contributes more to golf cart accidents than does speed. Just my opinion.

I believe you are right. Some of the unfortunate deaths were due from possible medical situation suffered by a golf cart or auto mobile operator or late night poor visual conditions.
