This thread continues to repeat itself and it leaves the impression that it is the wild west out there on our MMP's and it is not. Again DISTRACTION is the leading cause of vehicular accidents. In part look at the mental/physical condition of drivers and their ability to react. Kids using carts enters the equation. In part the complaints are coming from people who believe that they are being passed by a cart that is going too fast. Ever notice the look on a golf cart drivers face as you pass his 12-15 mph pace, which you can do easily at 17-18 mph. How many times have you witness a golf cart driver that stops directly on the cart path to make/take a phone or call, etc. How many times have you noticed a golf cart driver who has no idea where s/he is going or how to get there? I also contend that the traffic (pedestrian bikes other carts) and lest not let us forget the number of stops we are forced to make along the way that is such resulting in an average speed on a MMP not much over 17 mph So now we come to diamond lanes which in most situations are on roads with a speed limit of 35mph. If speed is the issue is speed really an issue in a diamond lane? I think not. The Villages to my chagrin is growing by leaps and bounds and I am one that would have preferred managed growth...but here we are. SO THE REALITY OF SPEEDING GOLF CARTS IS THAT AS THE VILLAGES CONTINUES ITS RAPID GROWTH AND IF A RESIDENT'S DESIRES TO ENJOY AS MUCH OF THE VILLAGES AS S/HE CAN THEN TIME IS OF ESSENCE AND NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION. Personal Best Regards: |

I tend to agree. If you can't handle a golf cart at 22, then you can't handle it at 20

As for the number of fatalities, a question more pertinent to this discussion would be how many fatalities are the result of golf carts going over 20mph. I know of one man that was killed when he drove his cart into the front of a moving mini van on Morse Blvd. That had nothing to do with speed. Of course, if there is an accident involving a car and a golf cart the person in the cart is more likely to get the worse of it. But that has less to do with speed than the fact that golf carts are small and lighter. The same can be said for accidents involving a car and a bicycle or motorcycle or a pedestrian for that matter. That being the case should we ban golf carts, and bicycles? When I look a the amount of golf cart traffic and automobile traffic in TV, I am surprised that there are not more accidents and fatalities. I think that for the most part, we are pretty safe and that excessive speed of 21-25 mph plays little part in accidents.

To the OP's question, I had a cart that the dealer replaced a defective motor with a better one. I was driving back from Glenbrook on Oak Forest when a deputy stepped out from a side street and motioned me to stop. He asked if I had a cart or an LSV. I told him it was a cart and he told me he had me at 24 mph. I explained about the motor replacement and suggested they hadn't set the controller yet for the new motor. He let me go with a warning and told me to get the cart calibrated for the new motor. So, I know you can get pulled over for 24.
