You've hit on one of the real issues with street legal carts. If your top speed is 26 mph what are you doing on roads with 35 mph speed limits other than holding up traffic and causing peope to unnecesarily change lanes simply because you are holding up the normal flow of traffic. Can see where this would be very irritating especially when traffic is heavy. |

What I am doing on the road is what I am legally entitled to do. The law says LSVs are allowed on streets with speed limits up to 35 mph. I encounter street legal carts on TV's roads EVERYDAY when I am driving my car, sometimes they slow me down, but I've NEVER found it "very irritating." NEVER.

What is wrong with a "street legal" doing 25 mph on a 35 mph road? Can I do 25mph in my car? I think I will start driving 25 mph on all 35 mph roads. I like gettin "the finger", it makes me feel like they are telling me I am "# one"! Lets not forget all the regular Golf carts going 25-30 mph on the paths that cut me off and give me the finger for going 19 mph. TV is still a very friendly Place until someone gets behind the "Wheel"

1. What's a GEM?
2. 25 in a 35, are there opportunities to pull over to let cars pass? |

I feel your pain, Cappy. We've not been here that long and have seen/avoided some really rude and silly behavior. But, having said that, I still don't regret my choice to relocate to TV. No place is perfect and that includes TV. I choose to believe that the rude and inconsiderate are vastly outnumbered by the friendly and courteous!

Sorry for your experience; but I’m afraid it may not be uncommon anymore.
If the speed limit is 35 and I’m going 25, the courteous thing to do is to pull over (when safe to do so) and let any backed up traffic pass – which is what I do. But 35 is the speed “limit”. If memory serves me correctly, there are some highways that have minimum speed limits, but not inside TV. As the seasonal and year round population increases, maybe a reminder campaign to “share the road” or something similar would be a good idea. I often am slightly amused when a hurried driver rips around me and we both end up at the next traffic light together. Maybe he/she eventually gets to their destination a few minutes (and, literally, on short trips, it is just minutes) earlier than they would have had they been a little less stressed; I wonder if they ever think that these aggressive driving attitudes increases the risk of the tiny mistake that might take the life of a cyclist, a golf cart occupant, the occupant of another auto, themselves or their passenger. We should become wiser with age; slow down out there – aggressive driving is dangerous on so many levels. |

I vote for agreeing there is a minority of inconsiderate drivers here in TV (like every where else).....the other 90+++% are enjoying being here.
Just know that you live in an aging community and you just have to resign yourself to defensive driving...... I do not have any sympathy for those who choose to drive a golf cart in competition with automobiles and trucks. On so many levels that just does not make sense....in addition to the cost.....must be saving some seconds or even minutes matter that much to some retirees with plenty of time to ....RELAX. To each his own however and what ever.... btk |

[QUOTE=dalecrenshaw;539654]These people, and people like this, are going to ruin it for the rest of us law abiding, safe drivers, who are courteous to the rest of the people around us. It is a privilege to be able to drive our golf cart (on legal roads & pathways) and GEM Cars on the streets in the Villages. Where else, in the rest of the world can you do this. If we have enough incidents like this, with rude & dangerous jerks, they will take away our privileges. It is already hard to get golf cart insurance (especially for the snow birds) and the insurance will continue to go up with behavior like this. I just hope that the people in charge don't get to the point that they have had enough of stuff like this, and take away our privilege to drive the golf carts.[/QUOT
The same thing happened to us when we first came down here a car cut us off and she gave us the finger....There are alot of peoploe down here that are not very friendly you pick and choose your friends, and then get rid of the ones that you don't want.....Thank god the both of you were not hurt..... ![]() |

Please all remember this is a community made up of over 90,000 people, without its own police force and a very limited amount of crime. Mostly
over indulgence as the cause. Point me to another city of this size that is better than The Villages for this social behavior and hardley any crime and I will sell and move there. Also remember there are hundreds of people that get togehter to hear music every night and they do it with class and peace. So there is one alleged "nut" that is anti social and uses bad behavior as a way to get attention or get rid of his/her anger. That is pretty darn good for a community as popluated as The Villages. Count yourself lucky that you found and moved to The Villages. Pray for the poor unfortunate person that threatens someone. This is a retirement community..If you are in a hurry then for gods sake move to NY City, Chicago or Miami and come back when you can respect others. ![]() |

Cappy: I really can't add anything to the posts as they pretty much say everything. One point, should you or any of us, run into road rage it is best to report it immediately as it is happening. The police can't do much except talk to the person or persons later. I am interested to see if you get any response at all from the Sheriff's Department.
It certainly sounds like the lady involved has a mental/behavior problem. There can be many causes for behavior like you described. As you indicated, she did not respond rationally when your wife attempted an "adult discussion" of the incident. Street Legals, trucks, cars, scooters/motorcycles, bicycles, golf carts, runners and walkers can co-exist in TV but it takes some patience on all our parts. I don't know if it can be changed but it might help if they would change the speed limit on Street Legals to 30 or 35 miles per hour. If I had one, I think that I would contact my State Legislators regarding the possibility. Anyway, lets all be careful out there. |

Some posters have so many issues and confrontations. My wife and I Have owned in TV for 2 yrs and relocated here a year ago. We have had one or two head shaking episodes, but certainly no more than when we were living in the Balt/Wash area. What are we missing?? We have found TV on the most part to be very friendly.
