Am I being too picky? I went to the gym today and found they had removed the table to put your gym bag, etc. on. When I asked where it went the answer was that it was gone for good with no explanation. So now bags are laying all over the floor. Given that this is a retirement community they must know that your average 70+ individual may have a problem picking things up off the floor. Every gym I have ever gone to had lockers for this purpose. Who do you suppose I might contact to voice a complaint?

You go to a gym to workout, but you complain you might have a problem picking up your own gym bag off the floor. Maybe you should lighten the load until you've worked out some more.

There are many such stories from residents. so I believe your reaction was right and justified. A simple explanation would have been nice and that's what you should have told him. Finally a corporation's attitude begins from the top and works it way down. Good leaders know this and so work hard at cultivating the corporate cultural. |

Try this number for the Recreation Administration: 352.674.1800 and explain what the situation is with the table. It is worth a try. If they can't help, ask if they can direct you to someone who may be able to assist. I don't think you are being picky. Good luck.

Go to your neighborhood postoffice. There is a box on the side that says CIC. Fill out the form in the box it will be handled by the Community Improvement Committee. That's what they're there for!!

It certainly isn't being too picky to expect a place to put your stuff when you're working out. A set of shelves with bins, lockers, or some other arrangement would work, or even a table near the entrance. Good luck and let us know how you made out. We originally belonged to the Colony center, but quit because of things like that. Also, it was so busy during the winter, we couldn't get on the machines during the hours we wanted to work out.

Since I quit smoking in 2006 and had to have a stent in 2007 I began working out at home. Before moving here I had a Planet Fitness 300 feet from my door and it was only $10 a month but I never went. The parking lot at that place was packed. I think it was more of a meet and greet for singles.
What I did was work out at home. Here in TV I do the same routine. Unless I'm playing softball or golf, that leaves about 3 or 4 mornings week that I can work out. I use a 10 pound medicine ball, resistance bands and two twenty pound weights. I'm 5'9" and when I quit smoking I gained 30 pounds and weighed 180. My current weight is 155 and I feel great. I also ride a bike about 3 mornings a week for about 7 miles in my neighborhood, takes about 35 minutes. You can really get a good workout at home with resistance bands. If you're interested I can tell you some of the exerices I do. They also include situps and crunches and leg lifts. There is a lot you can do without machines. One side note, is in the last year I've increased my swing speed and driving distance at the course to about 265-275 yards. It's amazing when I see the face of grown men weighing 250 and this little guy weighing 155 drive the ball 50 yards or more past them. In fact I always played the white tees up north and here I've had to switch to the blue tees and I still shot an 82 last week at Mallory. Not bad considering I just started playing golf in 2009. Living in TV is like being a kid at the playground again. |

Reminds me of 20 years ago when I would go to the YMCA to run 5 miles on the track, but would be annoyed when all the close by parking spots were filled and I had to park a block and a half away. Pretty funny!

John W's sarcastic reply is a typical response here.A person asks a question or states a fact and is then attacked or ridiculed. He did not receive a good explanation and how is it too picky to want a place to put your gym bag? Yes,I know I'll be told to lighten up so save that response. And John,I do find it great that you're health and conditioning is so good.

"Am I being too picky? Given that this is a retirement community they must know that your average 70+ individual may have a problem picking things up off the floor."
gatherer47, if you considered my response as being sarcastic then I considered the question of being picky more of one of being hypocritical and not picky. Obviously you go to a gym for strength training but complain about now having to reach all the way to the floor to pickup your own personal gym bag carried onto the premises by yourself. Unless of course he filled his bag with rocks how hard is this to pick up? Now, if the OP asked do you think the employee's response was inadequate, then I would of said, yes. That's not the question he asked. What he asked was more along the lines of 'kittylecroix' response of driving to the YMCA to run 5 miles and then complaining by the lack of a close parking space. Now, do you see the irony in that? |
