Moved to the old section 2 years ago, I was 58, spouse 60. We would not have entertained moving to the new section even if we could've afforded it (which we couldn't).

You did that just to beat up on us 70's Pickleball players. Bring it on. Hope to see you at SB this year.

Default Curious.. Going back and forth the way you do, do you fly down or do you drive?

We have made Florida our primary residence, but will be traveling back north. Planning on 7 months here and 5 up north, broken up over the year. Not looking forward to all the driving back and forth, but thinking we will need our car up north.

I quit the corporate rat race at 53, my S.O. was already done and was 56 at the time. We snowbirded between St. Pete and Chicago until last year when we decided to become full time Florida residents. The SO turns 68 next week and I turn 65 in two months.

Hurricane fatigue and family recommendations led us to look here in 2017. We did the lifestyle tour and loved the whole idea of TV, but we wanted new construction and the only option for that was Fenny. The sales people were really pushing Fenny, and while the new neighborhood was beautiful, it felt isolated to us and we were not interested. It still feels isolated even with all the construction that never seems to stop. In 2018 we ended up closing an a beautiful new construction home in a great neighborhood where we share a border with Bridgeport at Miona on one side, and Lynnhaven/Ashland across the street. We are very happy with our new community and feel more a part of the Villages than those southern areas, even though we are constantly reminded that we are not true villagers. Oh well.

We don’t golf and don’t care about “3000 clubs”, so we feel like we hit the jackpot with our community. We also like that there’s a mix of ages here. We were really set to live in the Villages, but found our new place almost by accident, and have no regrets. Your mileage may vary.

I'm going to speculate that many of the newly retired people are in their early 60's, and I would bet that many of them are buying new homes which are in the new areas south of 44. That was probably true say 10 years ago when the area around Lake Sumter Landing and down to Brownwood was new. So now, I would expect that area to have many in their 70's. And by extension, I would expect a lot more of those north of 466 are in their late 70's and 80's,. I know that in all areas there are a mix of ages due to resales, but I suspect that this logic would explain the average age being 71.5. But this is all a guess.
I thought the same thing, but actual first hand experience has proven otherwise. We bought in our 50’s over 6 years ago north of 466 between LSL and SS. When we bought we were the youngsters in a relatively old demographic neighborhood. Over 6 short years, the turnover in our neighborhood has been rapid. We are now in our 60’s and are surrounded by neighbors mostly in their 50’s and 60’s. What was an older neighborhood a few years ago is rapidly becoming young by villages standards. In a few more short years both the north and southern most areas will be the young areas, and the middle areas will be older. Then the cycle will change again. With the age demographic in the Villages, rapid housing turnover is a constant.

A couple of years ago it was reported the average age in the Villages was 66.4 - having said that -- the real way to look at AGE is: the newer the Village (generally speaking) the younger the people living there - very simple - most people coming down look and buy in the newer sections and tend to be younger when moving here. EX: the Historic side of TV is the original section and tends to have people that have been here for year - I know there are exceptions to that - but that is the general consensus.

Reality-I find that with each passing year I am a year older.
Perhaps worse surprise for many you are actually a year older than what we say.
Your first birthday is at the completion of your first year not the start of it.

Ponce de Leon looked for the fountain of youth in Florida. The villages? Ponce de Leon was too young to get in.

So much has changed since we were born. Not all of it good. Not all of it bad. Who is that old guy in the mirror? The guy that said he would never go to Florida.

Using registered voters age is a misleading statistic in the Villages. Think about it, roughly half the population are snowflakes and snowbirds who tend to be on the younger side of the average age in a retirement community. Many of those Villages homeowners have another home in a state where they are registered to vote.

There are over 98,000 registered voters in The Villages...I"d say it's fairly representative

Age is not just a number. It is a statistical indicator of life experience and, possibly, knowledge and wisdom. Also, like the best if used before dates on perishables, an indicator of possible degradation of performance of certain functions. So, better join in the fun ASAP. Don't be one of those who waited too long before deciding to get involved and enjoy life to the fullest. And, like Cherstubbs said, you'll love the community. There is something for everyone.

Very interesting thought in first paragraph. Try this thought. Born on July 8, 1946. Service took me around the world, always traveling west. What day should I celebrate my birthday?

Better come now while you're still young.
You should have bought 4 years ago during your lifestyle visit.

My parents are 78. I wish they would have at least spent some time in TV 3 to 5 years ago. They are in the northeast, and the winters are brutal for them - not so much the cold, but the isolation due to the weather.
For no other reason, do it so your mind stays young.
