I am curious how many buffalo's are actually in TV and how many babies where born this spring.
Anyone know the history of the buffalo here in TV?

Baby Buffalo!!!

OH NO! I missed them. Why do these things somehow escape me??? I would have rushed right over to see them. Thankyou so much for posting the pics, such a monumental event for TV.

Eddie, Shame on you for even thinking of Buffalo burgers, and NO lamb for you either! They are baby sheep. NO Babies for human consumption! got it??? >

fumar, I've noticed they move around to different areas every few weeks or so, do you know how/when they move them. I've never heard of anyone actually seeing them being moved. GN

Fumar: thanks for the buffalo history. They must have to move them around to let the grass regrow, they are big eaters and I am sure can "use up" the pasture pretty quickly.

So what if they are a tax right off, I like having them around.

I'll be sure to stay out of the tunnels in the late evening. : :

The elves do it sometimes, and sometimes it is the tooth fairy and I also heard St. Joseph does it upside down.

I went over this AM to see the babies, and couldn't find any!!

I saw a few buffalo in 3 different places along 466, got closer on the side streets so I could see better, and saw no babies. If anyone knows where they are, please let us know.

I guess if they move them often, it may be impossible...

PJ,

The group of 4 buffalo calves are in the pen adjacent to Lake Sumter Landing....from 466 go south on Buena Vista...that open field between Old Mill Run and Stillwater Trail.

While returning from golf and lunch yesterday, we happened by the Buffalo pen at Morse Blvd and 466. A crowd was gathering and, lo and behold, one of the buffalo was giving birth. The whole process, from when we arrived, took about 30 minutes, then we got to watch her clean up the baby, get it on its feet, and do its first sprint. This was so cool!!! Nature at its finest.

I've posted a few pictures below. I have pictures of the actual birth, but, they might be a little too graphic for a public site.

Just after birth, Mama starting to clean up baby:

Baby, with rest of herd cheering on, taking first gallop:

I hear there were two more PG females in that group at Morris. Watch for them. They should be born soon. I love to see the babies and it seems that like to romp just at dusk, which is probably before bedtime. If you watch closely you can see and hear Mama buffalo talking to the baby. The baby will walk towards the fence and mama will grunt, and baby will stop. I hope we get to keep the buffalos here at The Villages forever.
