Default Happy trails

I've attached a few movies that were filmed in the smokey mts.
If you go to youtube videos you can see the tours and trips people have undertaken to the smokies. Don't try to do it all in one trip. One tip, many tunnels go straight thru the mountains so keep your headlights always ² on.

Wowsa! You think it’s hot already??? Maybe you should wait until August to get away, lol. That’s when I’ve been told it’s really hot! New here from Calif, so my first summer experiencing FL heat. Not too bad so far… the rain storms sure help. 😅

Default Cooler locations

Within an 8 hour drive (includes short breaks) we head to Blue Ridge and Blairsvile, Ga. Humidity is low and of course the scenery can't be beat.

Take a balloon ride or a harbor boat ride - otherwise no where within a day from here.

This year, so far the weather looks 70's daytime, lower 60's overnight. It makes me appreciate this heat, but I'm a wuss when it comes to cold.
I did that rafting trip at the end of May 2010, with a bunch of trail buddies during my hike on the Appalachian Trail. It was a fun break from climbing three mountains a day, but not what I'd call "white water". More like a float trip. Our "guide" warned us to not bring anything we couldn't stand to lose on this wild and dangerous jouney, so we were careful to leave our wallets with our gear at the hostel. Then he spent the whole float telling us how poor he was, except for every little rapid, when he'd tell us "spin for safety" to make it seem more exciting. When we got to the end of the float, there was a big sign on the bank telling us to be sure to tip our guide if we enjoyed the trip. It was then, we realized why he was so poor -- he had neglected to mention that his tip was not among the things we could not afford to lose! By the time we got back from the hostel with his tip, he was gone.

Anyway -- thanks for reminding me! The wife and I were just talking about doing another road trip, after our recent trip down to Key West. Although I don't look forward to another slog through Atlanta, Nantahala is amazingly, about the same distance as Key West -- 8 hrs. It might be fun to retrace my hike (by car this time!) so my wife can see some of the sights I saw. You can even drive most of the way to the top of Clingman's Dome, near Gatlingburg. But I'm not sure we won't find a 90 degree day there in June.
