Default Beat this, will you???

Today about 2:00 p.m., as I was driving east on 466, the traffic slowed down and created somewhat of a traffic jam. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it was caused by a man driving his Hoveround on the road. Best part....he had on headphones....oblivious to the world around him. The cars were slowly trying to safely navigate around him. Oh, how I wished I were driving my car that has voice activated telephone service so that I could have alerted the police. Please, someone....tell me this is illegal.

What an interesting sight to see and a great story to tell!

Did you have a camera with you...that would have been a great picture!

I did; but, honestly can you take an "in focus" picture with your mouth agape?

This person was driving down 466 in a chair designed to be sort of a conveyance for a person who is somewhat physically disabled? And this person was nonchalantly talking on his cell phone?

Boy Howdy!

No, the OP said he had headphones on and, where did it say nonchalantly? Handicapped people need to get around too but not even golf carts are allowed on 466. Maybe he was disoriented, God knows I get disoriented sometimes! Someone should have checked on him instead of jumping to conclusions.

Forget boy Howdy... boy Mr. Flubberdubber! I feel uneasy enough that a careless golf cart driver will approach me when I take my mobility scooter on the GC path from Hadley to Colony; but 466???

Gracie, if you ever see me driving my scooter past your village on 466, please call those nice young men in their clean white coats to come and take me away!!!!

You are right, Joe, to admonish me for not stopping and making a call to the police. It was just so unexpected, and I momentarily struggled with the Call/Don't Call question. All types of scenarios went through my head. "Did he do this all the time?" It was insanely dangerous. I hope I will make a better decision if ever faced with a similar situation.

I think I saw him trying to cross 441 yesterday afternoon at Buenos Aires. All I could think was WOW.

I wasn't really trying to admonish you although, that seemed to be the outcome. Another poster misread what you said by thinking that the man was talking nonchalantly on the cell phone when all you said was that he was wearing headphones. If he was, as the other poster said, talking nonchalantly on the cell phone then that would almost surely peg him as an idiot and he may very well be an idiot but we don't know that. That's all I was saying. I didn't want the other poster changing the observation you made.

Knowing that Rubicon is joking - driving a power chair on 466 is illegal. It is illegal to drive your golf cart on 466, too.
