Default Big props to the Sumter Co. Sheriffs Dept.

For working hard yesterday (Friday) and today on St. Charles to stop speeders and other inconsiderate drivers.

They could make a fortune ticketing speeding golf carts on Hillsborough

Too bad they can't catch the band of burgers working TV. Catching speeders is easy work. Ask the burglary victims how good our sheriffs are.

Pretty hard on the sheriffs aren't you? You said yourself that catching speeders is easy...I assume you mean easier than catching burglars.

Oh, you must mean the notorious Ronald McDonald Gang and the Hamburglar!

Really, I have not noticed anything about a band of burglars working The Villages. There was one burglary of silverware by a couple of Polish guys but what else recently?

sandtrap: We don't know these bad guys were Polish. the news reported they held polish passports. This a very important distinction as far as my Polish wife is concerned

I have accidentally hit the panic alarm on my key fob twice. The Sumter Co. Sheriff has arrived at my home within 3 minutes both times. I'd call that pretty responsive. (I removed the fob and put it away so it doesn't happen again.)

Maybe you live in a different county than Sumter, but we have no reason to complain IMHO.

Anti-police are you? Ever put on a uniform and strapped on a weapon? Didn't think so. Try working a fatality accident like the one that just happened at Colony. Until you do, and just realize how easy it's not, back off the criticism of LEO's.

You need to go research the arrest records of the bad guys stealing stuff in The Villages. Sumter county law enforcement has a great record in arresting these guys.
What are you talking about these burglars working TV? Where when?

In the three years we've lived here in the villages in Sumter county I'm very impressed with the SCSO staff.

I am not now, nor ever been a police officer.

I do, however, maintain a lot of respect for these men and women. It is difficult to understand how (especially) in these times why someone would become a cop. Yes, I understand the benefits - several family members were LEO's.

Yosemite seems to be inferring that solving robberies is "easy." I highly doubt that.

The vast majority of Officers are good, hard working people and probably do not even wish to be assigned to these speed traps but those were their jobs for the day!

Don't wish to start ranting so - BYE-BYE!

All I saw was a portable speed indicator unit. Were there police giving tickets too? At least I know my cart goes exactly 20mph.

I have been also quite appreciative of the Sumter County Sheriff's people during the 10.5 years we have been here in the Villages. I used to pester the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office quite a bit about doing something about some events that occurred around me in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs around March of 2000 and did overdo it quite a bit with e-mails to them. I went down to their headquarters on September 18, 2002 and gave them over a hundred documents about why this happened that March of 2000. On the other hand, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office helped me out when my car broke down and had an officer behind me to wait for AAA to help me out. I sent them a letter thanking them for their kindness and got a reply from the Sheriff himself dated December 8, 2005 . I had mentioned my work on victims/survivors of crimes access to practical information in the letter to them as well. It is one of the letters in my Taltarzac725 Photobucket array. Just Google Taltarzac725.

I have been writing police departments since 1992 and am very appreciate of the work they do for survivors/victims of crimes as well as for citizens every day. Some of the responses from various police departments are there on my Photobucket Array. These are part of my 224 613 Project. Hats off to the men and women in blue even if some are in brown or green.
