y hubby "sweaty" is a regular rider& he says he feels safer on the roads where he is not mixed with golf carts than on the recreation trails where he has too many close calls with inconsiderate cart operators

That's because most of the lanes in TV are legally (under 14 feet wide) substandard. In such cases it is not possible to share the lane legally or safely with a motor vehicle. In such cases it is permissible for a biker to take the lane.

Be aware Florida State laws are clear when it comes to the rights of bicycle riders whether you agree with them or not does not matter.

You are absolutely correct- a - mondo. ![]() ![]() ![]() But you are discussing someones opinion, and they made that point from the get go, I cycle everyday to and from work, and anytime possible, No since in arguing this point, we are wrong so why bother. Who care that every other moving vehicle out there violates the law as much if not more than anyone else, but it is the cyclist who are at fault. Parr Drive is 25mph, I was riding home from work,, computer said I was doing 30.5mph,, I use that road to get a good sprint from Buena Vista to Belvedere. Ole Man passed me like I was setting still, then yelled at me when I caught up to him at the stop sign, and told me I had no business on the road. That should tell you something about the mentality around here, I told him he should move to a retirement community when he could do what he wanted to do,, Oh Snap he is in one... You get the picture I am painting here. I have read so many post on the cyclist deal being on the roads,,, we can not argue it,, Just read on to the next post skip anyone referring to cyclist. HEHEHEHE You got a good argument,, but let it go,, you will never win. We cyclist are wrong for even thinking about cycling on the roads, Multi Modal Paths, Cart Paths, Neighborhood streets, Dirt trails and so on. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Work With Me On This One...... Just My Opinion, Just sayin.. |

Many die-hard bicyclists focus only on their "rights", while other drivers/motorists think it's wise to focus on and do what is legal AND SAFE in a given situation so they don't get accidentally maimed and killed!! |

There is a flip side to cyclists rights. That is that they have the same responsibilities that motor vehicle operators have to ride legally and safely. There are times when each type of road user fails to meet that responsibility. The risk of death or serious injury is far greater to the cyclist than to a motorist.

Here it is in a nutshell:
1. If you are a bicyclist do not interfere with automobiles on any roads. Do not make them slow down or have to move over to the other lane. They do not like it. 2. If you are a walker, jogger, or bicyclist do not interfere with golf carts on any of the "multimodal paths." Do not make the golf carts have to slow down or move over into the other lane. They do not like it. Remember if they need to pass you they can do it on blind curves if they have to as they can always cut back in if another cart appears from the opposite direction. If you remember these two inclinations of some car and cart drivers you will have a better understanding of why some of the more strident operators get very testy when other slower people or vehicles come across their path. Their slogans could be "Get out of my way! What are you doing on the road,? (golf cart path) You are putting yourself at great danger. You will surely lose if you get hit by a car or a golf cart. What are you thinking?" |

By rights I mean what is legal under the law. Let's be clear there are both bicycle riders and automobile riders out there that think the road way only belongs to them. As far as I am concerned they are no different and can be lumped into the same class. " stupid"

The "share the road" law; waste of legislation. No way to accurately determine 3' width from drivers seat of a car, No tickets will ever be issued. Should have titled the law "ride at your own risk", because that is what it is. I still believe they should require license and plates for bicyclist that ride the roads. I have to purchase plates on every car I take on the road, and I have to pass a test prior to being allowed to do so... |
