Default Waygu Beef

Has anyone tried the Waygu beef that is sold at the Brownwood farmer's market? We've been tempted but, the price scared us away. Does it taste better than meat from Publix or Fresh Market?

Ractopamine?

I thought I was reasonably versed in science.

Prices scare me away. Figure chemicals in other foods would counteract the good meat .

Instead of Waygu, go to Best Meats in Wildwood-I used to buy Waygu-no longer. You can get custom cut-any thickness you want-his beef & lamb is all grain feed from Colorado. I had an 1-3/4" bone in ribeye- this week--the best steak I've had in Fl. including Ruth Chris, Cuvee
Bistro-and I did myself-cranked the grill to 800 degrees-3 minutes each side-lowered temp to 450, in an addition 8-10 minutes-tent & let stand for 10 minutes--Great !!!

What type of grill do you have that can reach 800 degrees. I've been looking for one that can grill at high temps but most are around 450 degrees.

I did look it up and that is just what it says. It is passed by the FDA and the Canadian counterpart.

I am not worried about eating it if the FDA says it is o.k. I think a lot of things that people are selling out the back door have a lot of foolishness and half truth's in the pitch.

I buy their grass-fed ground beef and organically-fed chicken every week. I'd rather pay the extra money to the farmer than to the doctor.

I think the FDA says a lot of things are safe because no one has proven them otherwise. There's also p o l i t i c s and financial resources involved. My theory is if it wasn't in there when God created it, I'd rather not eat it.

I understand how you feel, but my theory is that a lot of bacteria is growing when things are sitting around in coolers and what happens to the meat that didn't sell today?

I will take my chance on the processes of fine and constant refrigeration like Publix et al. Red meat is supposed to heighten your risk of strokes anyway, and I should listen to THAT warning.

We also have global warming and exploding refrigerators, not to mention sinkholes and lightning strikes. It is enough to make you drink.

And I don't eat red meat period, but I thought the Wagyu meat was sold frozen. If not, I would have that same concern.

I want to try one of their chickens. It's a lot closer than Organic Chef in Ocala.

If you do a bit of research you will know that 80% of our pork is sent to out of the country to be processed however there is some controversy over Ratopatomene which is made by one of the big phama companies. China in the past has refused to process Tyson's pork because of the ractopamene in the pork which is banned in their country. It is also banned in Russia. I am not a bleeding heart, nor a member of PETA, however when I first heard of this on Dr. Oz and did a bit of reading on this I decided I didn't want to eat it in my pork. You can each make your own decisions, its your body.
My meats are frozen solid when I pick them up on Sat morning and I get there around 9:00 and they are in my freezer by 9:30. To defrost I simply soak in cold water as the bags are sealed. So easy.
To each their own.
