Do you remember this poem from a lifetime ago?
“Don't make love by the garden gate, love is blind but the neighbors ain't.”

I guess not everyone heard it or took it to heart.

I was quite surprised the first couple got 6 months. I’m sure they have regrets but hindsight is 20-20.
The second couple had the advantage of knowing that this sort of thing is taken very seriously in this community.

I wonder what the sentence will be this time?

I'm beginning to blame some of these landlords here in The Villages.... when you rent your home, do you as a landlord not consider it a priority to do a background check of your renter to be or is the dollar just more important to you? If I understand correctly, this time the guy may not rent here but she does and was a renter here in her previous law episode. If you are the type to consider the dollar that you rent for to be more important...then you deserve to end up with what you get....but unfortunately it effects the rest of us villagers...each time the integrity of this place gets drawn through the mud again.

Is some sort of contest going on or is it mating season in the villages?

Any electric suggestions for a new drink?
is this the love bug season i have heard so much about ???

The last time something like this happened, I heard it being reported, on the radio, from a station in California. These events seem to get a lot of coverage. The question is: Is it good for businesses in The Villages, like selling homes etc., or is it bad?

The selling feature might be: This is truly An Active Adult Community! And: America's Friendliest Hometown.

The people involved the the two separate incidents were completely different types of individuals. The first was a case of a lonely woman letting her loneliness and alcohol get the better of her.

The more recent case involves people who are, shall we say, "well known to local authorities". The guy has an arrest record a mile long and the woman has been in a lot of trouble as well. They are both either on probation, on remand or out on bail. I'm thinking they will get much longer sentences, as they should.

Let's get priorities straight!
Nothing violent???

The guy had a recent arrest for battery and also for identity theft. grand theft and criminal contempt of court.

Both of people have long criminal records and are being held because probation violation.

They are part of a larger group of people that live on the historic side and have been causing a lot of trouble. A lot of residents are afraid of them.

I have no idea about the record of the guy who fired the shots. Although $10,000 doesn't seem like enough bail money. Nor was I at the hearing. But, he probably plead that he has a clean record and only shot at the car and not at any person in an attempt to frighten.

Doc, you need to provide more information on this statement.

Doc - I would say the woman's husband was lonely and avoid characterizing the woman for the sake of decency.

I haven't heard this background information mentioned before.
It certainly puts a different perspective on the "no bond" issue.

Say what you want about the criminal record - and I could not find "battery" on the record - but exposing oneself behind a walled section is FAR less dangerous than a lunatic idiot on a motorcycle shooting at an occupied car.

keywest: I made a similar observation about renting early on in this thread. I am not interested in leading the charge on anything but quite honestly there are landlords who buy up houses here, don't live her and are only focused on keeping their properties rented. At one POA meeting a resident complained that her neighbor a renter was a pedophile. He was thrown out and she said this unit was rented again, and again with a pedophile.

I see both sides. I hate when this wonderful place gets bad publicity. But all it takes is for people to come here just once to see what we see.

It all depends where you sit sometimes.

Most people are just jealous of us who get to spend everyday here on vacation. I would think that anyone who knew you well would know that you have good judgement. AND I agree that some detail in the online news were not necessary.
No, when we go to a 45 year class reunion, or a wedding or funeral where we see relatives /friends we haven't seen in 30-40 years, they DON'T know us and our tastes well enough to decide to spend their finite vacation budgets of time and money in a "tacky" town "full of old crabby STD carriers" that's not a beach vacation spot.

Most people need to use their vacation time and money for their favorite places like cruises or beach stays on the Gulf. These tabloid stories are heard too often for many to just disregard the tacky image they portray repeatedly.
