My guess it was the cable for the gas snapping. Tiny thin cable that runs under the floor to the carburetor.

Sounds like what happened to me. It was the drive belt that snapped. That was the big booming sound.

Then I’ll guess say battery especially if cart was dead? If you raised the seat should seen something? A Lady about 5 years ago was driving old electric cart and the batteries exploded knocking her out of seat, cart hit curb and turned over.

Second guess say secondary clutch? I had similar experience except the cart just slowed down and labored. I was close enough to home and limping it in. Found the secondary clutch was hotter than firecracker. And came apart. But even if secondary clutch came apart the primary clutch would release the transaxle from the engine. Which means the engine would idle but not go anywhere?

Bingo on the secondary clutch. Same for us, but it had been acting up for a while. TV Golf Carts said it was the battery. Wrong. Called Willie’s who diagnosed and repaired it.

Could have been worse. I've driven in states (not in a golf cart) where other drivers would not only have not stopped to offer help, but would have thrown you the finger as they hollered at you going by.

With drive belt missing the cart would still start but, not move, now it it was the starter generator belt it would not. She really didn’t explain “dead” dead like nothing happens when turn key on and press gas pedal or “dead” like engine starts but don’t move cart?

Few come back and explain what fix was anyway.

I agree! We almost always stop and ask when we see a cart stopped next to the path. Sometimes you can see they’re okay, or just talking on the phone, but we’d especially stop if it was a woman alone, or the cart was stopped right in the path. I hope you got out of the cart and stood away from it since you were at high risk of being rear ended. Hope it’s nothing too costly to fix. 🙏

OP was sharing what she thought were inconsiderate folks nor stopping and offering help. I didn’t read in her post that she was asking why the cart stopped.
And yet, the amateur mechanics have started a debate as to why it stopped. And going so far as being critical of her lack of details.

I helped a stopped cart once. The starter belt slipped off its pully. I was able to get it back on by slowly turning the pully while guiding the belt on. Almost caught my finger. Then while removing my arms from the engine compartment I accidentally touch the muffler. Ouchie!

My first guess was the starter generator belt. It happened to me about 8+ years ago while driving our brand new club car. The mechanic that set up our cart at the Village’s Golf Cart dealership had the belt on way too tight and it snapped, making a very loud noise and the cart was dead. It happened on the MMP that parallels 466, just east of the entrance to Bridgeport at Laurel Valley. I immediately called the Village’s Golf Carts and they sent a tow service to pick it up and give me a loaner while they fixed it. I had to wait about a half hour for the tow and was overwhelmed by the number of carts that stopped asking if I needed help while I waited.

This post is not to complain but to say, please, drivers, if you see a cart stopped along a path, just make an inquiry to see if that person needs help. I have done that many times if I see someone stopped. Thank you

When we first came to the villages in 2004, the people were more friendly. That is how the villages got the name being "The Friendliest Village." It seems most Millennials have a careless attitude!!!!
