That is not true.

There would be no debate if we could seperate haveing an adult beverage from a drunk driver. Do you think everyone that sips on a glass of wine turns into a fall down drunk?

We must be careful what we wish for. I have no doubt that some folks here would like to see all alcohol become illegal in The Villages. Some would vote for no Smoking in The Villages etc. etc.

Can you imagine how many would move if that was the law of The Villages. Since The Villages is a drinking friendly and is a Retirement Adult community, we SHOULD have some concessions like sitting in your cart at the square to hear the music with a beer in your hand. It is so crowded in the winter on the square surface and that would free up lots of seating space.

If it had not been raining when we visited, there could have been a stop at the beverage shack on the LSL square. I can see where Miss Sam and I might have walked across to a picnic table with our drinks. Being brand new to a square we would not have known that was taboo.

One thing that your link does not take into account is what activity are you doing? The more active you are the faster the liquor is removed from your body. Its good for a general idea and that is all.

Thats true, but you could give a beer IV Drip to a person in a COMA and they would not register over .08 at the rate of 2 per hour.

Another point to ponder.Have you seen the real fancy golf carts with the mini bars in the back, some are like trucks. They leave the square, walk to thecurb and mix a drink,we have all seen this. Now it would be ticket time. Not sure about driving around the villages, even if they are not drinking in the carts ,the bottles in the back are still open.Just leave things the way they where all along.

what a thread!!!! i find it wonderous that some people just can't get with the program to follow the law! and they're adults, too! if ya don't like it - get it changed!

i'm a smoker - i smoke in designated areas only! not convenient, fer sure; but i do it because it's the rule or the law!

sheesh!

How do you know it is a smoking area? Perhaps a sign? How does one know that if they step out of the square they are in violation of open container?

I don't know about this idea that the curb is the limit of legal open containers. How about when they have an affair in the square? Whether it's a speech or a festival. How far does the "border" go then? Nobody bothers anyone sitting at a table. The vendors are selling the adult beverages in the street, itself.

I went to hear Mark Rubio give a speech prior to his election to the Senate in the Barnes & Noble parking lot and they were selling drinks THERE!! People were drinking all over the place.

The limits of this "law" seems very ill defined.

Besides having a few beers, was anything else going on. It seems strange that you were ticketed while sitting in your cart. Something must have alerted the police. (Just a thought)

If you leave a resteraunt or bar with an alcoholic beverage you can be ticketed
If your walking on the street or sidewalk ( other then the squares sidewalk ) with an alcoholic beverageyou can be ticketed
I got it from here.
