She went on to explain that the liquor licenses for the kiosk's in the squares allow people to walk throughout the downtown area (outside the square) with a drink but you cannot sit in a vehicle, including a lawn mower, with a drink. She also said police would enforce the open container violations (but not speed enforcement) on TV's multi-modal paths. Janet also said liquor licenses for the restaurants in the Square, unlike the kiosks, do not permit patrons to leave the establishment with a drink. If the beverage is in a cup holder, the person in the driver's seat is ticketed unless the passenger is holding the cup. The fine is $116, if I remember correctly. Getting back to the Polo field, she suggested setting up a chair or table next to the golf cart and mixing the drinks there rather than on the golf cart. Seems like a crazy distinction but that's the law here now.
I was referring to this post... and thanks for posting!

I always thought the police worked for the citizens. No one wants to see drunks driving golf carts but sitting in a parked cart is not driving or endangering anyone. Bad law/regulation that should be subject to the common sense test. This smells like harassment of citizens who want to have a drink and a good time and are harming no one. I only have an occassional drink/wine with dinner or after a long hot day of work/golf. I believe the police are only enforcing the laws passed by elected officials but the police could make better use of their time by catching drunk drivers and criminals instead of busting Grandma/Grandpa for sipping a beer while using their golf cart as a lounge chair. The community can and should get the law changed and vote out the people who think/thought this is a good law.

BATMAN911, You are so correct, and this is just another example, why police, do very little patrolling this days. BECAUSE IT DOES NOT PAY ANYTHING!!

So it’s what’s in the blood, not what’s in the can. That makes more sense than what is in the golf cart seat or not. Yes a sobriety check lane outside LSL would work.

I had a drinking problem once so I quit dating her.

Amazing all the temperance advocates we have here on the forum. Downtown would go broke with just you guys.

I'm guessing all you "Carrie Nation's" are manifestly outnumbered in the town squares and downtown areas, from my observances.

I agree, if drunk driving is desirable, then legalize it.

Same with red light cameras, if you don’t like them legalize running red light.

I can do what I want and everybody else needs to obey the rules. I call that Village think.
