i really don't think that a smoker 'needs' to be told, 'though signage would help; common sense or courtesy should be sufficient to define one's behavior. it is too bad that some smoker's don't possess much of either!

was told that smoking is not permitted 'in the square'; observed that it pretty much appears to be the practice; if approaching the square with a partially smoked cig, will finish same next to the corner cigarette receptacle and then enter the square. it isn't hard to do.

once a policy, preference, rule, law has been pointed out - why must it be contentiously argued rather than simply respected and followed? if/when same is not acceptable, why not just take measures to have it changed and adhere to it until it is revised?

methinks that the drinking on/in the square policy/law is disparately interpreted even by the police who stroll the squares. perhaps discreet signage could be posted by each of the beverage huts and restaurants could be reminded not to provide patrons with 'togo' cocktails.

I haven't smoked in 26 years but I am not a reformer. There should be a place near the square where they can smoke.

TV is not only alcohol friendly, most of the commercial eateries encourage it with all day happy hours.

There are signs at strategic places like Rolling Acres Rd. that say “No golf carts beyond this point”. They should have “No alcoholic beverages beyond this point” signs in the squares.

I hate to start this up again, but I'd rather smell tobacco than obnoxious perfume any day. Especially two or three fragrant people traveling together and 'mixing it up'. Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!

I am fascinated by the people who always view the "other" people as the law breakers and they "deserve" to be ticketed or even arrested for breaking the law - no matter how trivial the law may be (yes, laws against drinking while sitting in a parked golf cart are trivial when drinking while standing next to a golf cart is allowed).

I wonder how many people would have this same feeling about ticketing for every violation if they were to be followed around and their actions be scrutinized. I doubt that any one of the pro-ticket group would be ticket-free at the end of the month if every one of their actions of going about their daily life were to be watched closely.

For example: there are those who say they drink but do so legally and within the confines of the law. Have you ever been to a block party where the neighborhood sets up the party on a dead end street and then consumed an adult beverage? Based on this thread, you have violated the law because you consumed alcohol on a public street. Even if you were drink-free, would you have applauded the police for swooping in and ticketing your neighbors for such scofflaw activity?

How about walking across the street to get to the squares? Do you always walk to the crosswalk when doing so? If not, you should gladly accept a ticket for your illegal behavior.

EXACTLY. There's no way of knowing these mystery laws/ordinances unless it's announced on the recording during band breaks, or posted clearly where you wait in line at the squares' bar shacks.

I will check out what exactly is allowed or not allowed when I move to TV by going to the police station and getting a clarification or an exact definition of the law. I do not want to be in the position of being ignorant of the law concerning this issue.

Well, cops giving tickets is the subject of this thread so I would say he is on subject. That being said, we all break the laws, right? The jaywalkers peeve me off more then innocent people sitting in their carts having a beer. You never know when they are going to cross the street. Many of them do not look either way, like they are in a mall or something.
