Default It's a new world...

IMHO....Let’s face it…Our generation are dinosaurs when it comes to news….Newspapers as you and I remember them are dead. As the younger generation turns more and more to the internet for it’s news, newspapers and television news outlets cannot compete with the online time cycle.

Let’s face it.....The Daily Sun for the most part a good newspaper; covers national news well off of the wire services, & covers T.V. sports and activities very well. It gives the majority of people what they want and that’s why it sells so well and is such a viable newspaper is this internet day and age. It is, however, a “house organ” and the ownership takes pains to foster an atmosphere of no bad news here in T.V. You have to understand that and take it for what it’s worth.

Let’s face it..... we find out more about what’s happening here in T.V. here on T.O.T.V. than anywhere else. Unfortunately we have to work through the sometime biases and lack of journalistic rules followed by the writers here just like on most all Web Sites!!

As long as one understands these facts, one can sift thru the chafe and munch on the wheat.

If you knew the guy was drunk, etc., will you sleep better at night?
Now folks want another paper, wasn't that tried by the Ocala paper? Or a section on TOTV just for news, sounds like a rumor starter.
So much chatter over nothing!

Gosh, there's a big difference between wanting an article in your community's newspaper to explain an event and wanting "the kind of coverage that the TV stations do...over and over, rehashing the details".

If the details weren't hashed the first time, how can they be "rehashed".

Among other information, I care:
  • Whether anyone was hurt
  • What caused the accident
  • Whether any factor(s) may have contributed to the accident that might contribute to further accidents, and if so, whether anything is being done at that location (or others with similar issues) to reduce the risks
  • How/whether sewer service operations were affected
  • The extent of the property damage, who will pay for it and when to expect repairs
  • How or whether traffic might be affected during repairs
Also of interest, when did the accident happen? Who reported it? Who was involved? Was anyone charged? How is the driver now? Any passengers? (I expect at least this much was reported in the newspaper article, although I didn't see it. It wasn't included in the online version.)

Maybe C. C. should stop selling booze? Maybe booze had nothing to do with it. Hard to make any informed opinions about whether anything could be done to improve public safety, or any "lessons learned" could be had, without knowing any facts.

Yes, the sun will come up in the morning, but why is that relevant? It would come up in the morning even if none of us ever posted comments on any TOTV thread. It even came up the morning of 9-12-01.

I have been trying to come up with a thoughtful response on this thread but tpop1 has said exactly what I would have said only better.

Thanks, tpop1.

the daily sun is what it is, you're not going to change it, if you don't like it don't buy it, not sure why they are taking the brunt of some dimwit that plowed through a pump house....gn

It is not a newspaper...it is a house organ for you know who.
If you really want a real newspaper...for news outside of our cocoon...you can get home delivery (before sunrise!) of the Orlando Sentinel -- one of the highly regarded Tribune newspaper chain. Go to this website: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/
