Very true. When the signs for Villages speed limits were first posted, I communicated with the office of Sumter County responsible for the signs. I suggested they be the yellow advisory signs, rather than the white regulatory signs for the very reason that people would be confused and slow to 20 when the limit is 45. Imagine a large truck going 45 (or more) and coming up behind a car that suddenly slows to 20. The same problem exists to a lesser extent on Buena Vista north of Glenview where the signs are posted as you enter Sumter County. The speed limit is 35, but there is a Villages sign for 20 just after it. Same on Rio Grande.
I was told the signs had to be regulatory, rather than advisory. My concerns about the confusion were noted, but they did not have an option to do otherwise. State law.
