I can't imaging not having a car. One of the things I am looking forward to when moving to Florida is the ability to explore, go to the beach, Disney, nice road trip to the Keys. I know that it is always possible to rent but I would feel trapped (although being trapped in paradise isn't all bad!). I'm a very social person but the thought of relying on someone else would be very hard. The day will come, I'm sure, when driving isn't an option..until then we'll have at least one car (and two carts!).

Well, thank you so much. I've always been reading though. Still have tons of more information to dump in the hopper (my brain) so we will be thoroughly confused when buying time comes!! LOL

I wouldn't have ever imagined having a golf cart as my primary means of transportation. We kept one car and have a cart. The cart gets used almost every day, the car only once a week or less.

Default No car

A friend of mine at the pool has no car. She has a cart with doors and uses public transportation when she can't get where she wants to go in her cart {airport}. We are on the Historic side and everything is close.

I have been here two years and have only a golf cart.I have rented a car for trips to beach but otherwise don't miss a car at all.Once ,used a taxi to go to tax office.I have friends here who have car that I've gone places to with them but nothing extensive. The guy we bought our house from doesn't have a car either and lives in Belvedere. We are in De La Vista right between two squares and can get to basically anywhere we need to go by golf cart.I first thought it was a crazy idea to be without a car but it's a non issue now.

Whatever works for you....
07 is right, You need one car and one or two carts ........I sold our second car when We came as we didn't need it but you should have a car for the reasons 07 stated. I also have a scooter but thinking of selling it because I hardly ever used it anymore .....probably would but (you know who) never rides on it with me.......Two golf carts is a luxury but they do come in handy if you both play golf.........

join the fun..........fumar...

I think it'd be very hard without a car. There are lots of fun and interesting places to explore outside TV. Otherwise you would miss the little trips, such as to: Homosassa, the beaches, the lakes, Mount Dora, the Rainbow Springs, etc. not to mention Home Depot, to which one of our cars goes at least twice a week.

Home Depot is to me as Ulta (make-up store) is to my wife!!

Most everyone will keep at least one car for reasons you've listed, including us. But I can understand the post about not having a car. If everything you do or plan to do is in golf cart range, heck, go for it!!

As I say at the golf course, "it's my money and my ball. . .I'll play by my rules"!!!

Probably a factor for some folks re: cars will hinge on whether or not anyone in the household is working a job outside of TV.

We're going to have some "serious vehicular separation issues" if Sandy and I ever wind up in TV full-time. What we would probably NEED, as many of you have already mentioned, is likely one car and 2 carts. What we'd WANT differs: We've always had motorcycles as a form of enjoyment.....so we'd need to keep one in TV. And we've always had "other cars" - older cars of various descriptions......so we'd undoubtedly want to keep one. Then as jgbama said, "You can't beat a ride in a convertible....." - - - and on and on and on.

We'll have issues (don't say it - I know what you're thinking!! )........ We'll figure it out, though!

I would love to be in the position where just 2 golf carts would do it. No car.

Default ummmm

I had to go back and look at my question...

I am reading the responses and got confused. I asked about people who do not own cars in TV and about renting them etc...

What I got was a list of what vehicles everyone owns.

OK.. a refresher course...

I understand there are people who don't have cars in The Villages.

Are there a lot of you? Do you rent a car for day trips.

What is the cost of renting a car for a day or two if you don't own one. (of course there would be insurance tacked on)

Do you wish you had kept your car?

If you have your car.... how much do you actually drive it?

and a one and a two....

We plan to have bring a car, but I'm curious about the people who don't... Do they take the day trips. Do they miss their cars? etc. Maybe there aren't that many as I may have thought.
