Hey John, welcome back!!! Glad to see you posting again.

I don't think I will ever give up having a car as I need to travel down to visit family, (four and half hours). I also like the option of choosing of what I prefer to drive. IMHO - Like most people, I am use to going when I want to go and come back when I want to come back. Visitors are welcome but I am use to being independent.

I agree with the idea if using the car turns out to be once or twice a year, it might be better to rent and save money.

Being single, one cart and one car is all I need.

Are there a lot of you? Do you rent a car for day trips.

What is the cost of renting a car for a day or two if you don't own one. (of course there would be insurance tacked on)

Do you wish you had kept your car?

If you have your car.... how much do you actually drive it?

We plan to be a two cart, car and scooter household and I'm wondering if we really need the car?

Oh... and if you get off topic.... It's OK... Have fun!
Angie:

Sorry, I was off topic. I'll try to answer part of your question in saying that you could call your local "Enterpise" car rental company. I small vehicle with all the taxes and charges ran me a little less than $40 a day.

I never have taken any of their insurance as I had my own. The rates are pretty much the same nationally. You would have to check with them to get an exact price.

My question would be to the insurance. If you don't have a vehicle in TV you wouldn't have insurance..

And... you are forgiven for going off topic... Don't let it happen again...

I thought there were more people who didn't own a vehicle... but I'm thinking I was wrong... *looks around* do you think anyone heard that?

Angiefox for asking questions that generate lots of discussion.. you put the "fox" in "firefox". But I digress- yes we have a car and cart and they both get along very well in the garage after a bit of an adjustment period. Now they are best friends.

Default Car or not?

Since we still not Villagers, can't answer the original question.

But, We're planning to be a one cart, one car family of two.
I am glad to see so many people who have responded have just one car and one cart.
We were not too sure at first.

Anyway to get off topic, for those having just a car and a cart, do you still need more garage space if you have a 20 x 19 ft garage?

We have a packed garage now and a big walk in attic. (the space over our big garage) My better half says off with their heads and no more junk to keep!

Two carts, one car. We put very little mileage on the car. Wish they had ZipCars at the mailboxes. Then I might get rid of the car.

Default Sorry must answer this question so short hijack!

If the "ole boy" had his way, he would scrap all the furniture out to the curb and make the house one big garage to keep all of his "boy toys" locked away BUT he has the pleasure of living with me???? sooooo that is NOT an option..tee hee!.

My next door neighbor bought a cart and got rid of his car a couple of years ago. This was after seven years with no cart! If he needs to go any place close to TV he calls a cab. He seldom asks any of us for a ride but we do offer our services for medical trips, etc.

He figures that with the money he saves from car insurance, maintenance, etc, he can afford to rent a car if he needs to go any place for an extended amount of time.

But I will have to add that except for 3 month cruises once a year he does not go many places outside of TV.

It is not something I could do. When we got to TV and got all of our pickup needs taken care of I sold my truck and now have one car and a cart. We need the car because we don't want to be confined to TV. We like going to Ocala and other places to have fun and adventure.

Many credit cards (mine is AMEX) provide insurance coverage on rental cars, if you pay with that card, precluding the need to take the rental companies high priced coverage.

Check with your credit card provider!
