Newer carts are a bit wider which is safer. Newer areas have some great paths.
Headlights are another problem, cart headlight are Spotlight, not real headlights as in your Vehicle. If you cart at night I am sure you have been blinded by oncoming cart lights being too high, and that is what Spotlights are.<
And in the rain at night it is even worse especially if your cart does not have window wipers.

With so many carts, I wonder why we don't have some sort of identification on our carts. Not everyone is honest and so many carts look alike. For instance, a cart hits a car in the parking lot and takes off without leaving any note. A witness sees this, but the only way to identify the cart is by color and brand.

Obviously politics. Off the subject but the same with the STD myth. My friend retired in Phoenix gave me a hard time about the STD article. I researched at the CDC site and found out that Phoenix has three times the STD rate as the Villages. I wrote him about it with the link and I have received no response, for some reason.

If you want a registration plate, then make it street legal and pay for insurance and registration. The cost of registering all the carts in the villages has to come from somewhere. The idea is that they are NOT street legal and were made to use on the golf course. We use them for primary transportation here, but they weren't originally meant for that practice. I can imagine how many auto accidents there would be in the villages if everyone drove cars instead of carts. And that is exactly what I would be doing, driving a car, if I was told I had to insure, register and pay taxes on a golf cart.

And one third the population of the Villages, too.

Please don't miss the biggest point of the story.....put seat belts in your cart and use them. I have seen two near fatal accidents of women laying in the street bleeding from a head wound after their husband or other driver made a sharp left turn.

Back in the day when everyone drove a white care the owners had their names on the front of the cart...

Default Golf carts

I feel we have about 1/3 Golf cart drives who do not play attention to what they are doing. The same goes for cars. They do not use the turning signals ect. They go the way they want to. You have to watch out for all drivers...
Maybe we need the police to start watching the golf cart rails.

We don't need the police to watch the golf cart trails. The trails are private property and we would either have to donate them to the country or hire off duty police officers. And you don't write tickets for minor traffic infractions on private property. I am sure that the police have better things to do than babysit seniors. Of course, I may be wrong on this. I am originally from another area, so I do not know for a fact what the police will do or not do down here.

Seat belts are not a bad idea. My wife made me install them in her cart. A hundred bucks to prevent some nasty accidents seems pretty cheap.

In my opinion, the drivers in the Villages are some of the worst in the U.S. That said, I still don't want more laws and rules. I am not one for a gov nanny watching over my shoulder.
Instead of needing police oversight, why not try driving safely. I brought up stop sign violations in another thread a while back and had several folks tell me that they didn't' bother with them, use them for yield signs, or felt they were not legal signs. If you don't take driving seriously then you can expect more and more restrictions and rules.
I don't like mandated seat belts, but I put them in for my wife. I don't believe in motorcycle helmet laws, but I wear one always when operating my Harley. We don't need someone babysitting us with new laws. We need to act/drive safely and responsibly.

Personally I'm not insulted because the media & the govt. is talking about The Villages & our golf cart problem they think we have. My question to them is tell me where there's 50 or 60,000 golf carts used on a daily bases & doesn't have accidents. I look at it like were getting FREE advertisment for the Villages. Don't be insulted, look at the rest of the country, it's a bigger WRECK than the Villages!

What is a bit odd about the story is that it is focused on street legal golf carts. The two people they interviewed had street legal golf carts. However, the vast majority of the golf carts in The Villages are not street legal. They also make reference to the place "crawling with low speed electric vehicles" and then proceeded to show scenes with mostly gas carts.
