Suggestions for verifying the legitimacy of the form or a census taker is at

Verify a Census Bureau Survey, Mailing, or Contact

You likely were selected to respond to the yearly American Community Survey

Despite the comments above mine which incorrectly tell you the census bureau only collects data every ten years... those are wrong statements.

Details for that Survey are at
Top Questions About the Survey.

In the FAQ section about that survey you are informed your participation is required, not optional and that you must honestly answer
Wow, someone who actually researches!

Default Census community survey form?

Just wondering if any others here have received such a strange request from the "U.S. Census Bureau". I am tempted to shred it and forget it in this era of SCAMS. Would appreciate your comments, please. --Thank you.

Just looked online and the American community surgery form is 20 pages long. You state what you received was 47 pages. Could you share the NAME of the form you received?

https://www2.census.gov/programs-sur...22/quest22.pdf

I read the form in entirety and as one of the minority in this country that actually pays federal taxes and support the majority who do NOT pay federal taxes, I would NOT fill out this form.

Given how extremely personal and intrusive this form is I can’t imagine anyone; rich or poor, intelligent or ignorant, choosing to fill this form out completely, accurately and truthfully…then popping it into our incompetent and corrupt postal system. I would imagine the average scammer, corrupt postal worker etc know what these clearly marked and unique envelopes look like and are a great source of data for potential ne’er-do-wells.

This means whatever census data we receive is highly likely for to bear no resemblance to our current American socioeconomic reality and therefore is a useless exercise in bureaucracy.

Good grief.

I don't care if the request is legitimate or not. I would NOT answer any sensitive questions. In this day of never-ending phishing scams the government should know better than to expect US citizens to comply with such request.

I do not respond to anyone trying to get personal information - period. I don't care if it is actually the census personnel. You do not have to answer any of this.

Not America, USA, but rather what the politicos and bureaucrats are altering it into.
Can the form, if legit, discuss it with a census worker. We pay their salaries.

You don't have to answer ANY questions at all. Just plead "the fifth".

Default “Census Bureau” inquiry

This has to be a scam! There are no census inquiries in process now.
Report this to “askDOJ@usdoj.gov”.

So they are going to arrest you and force you against your will to answer questions? . Laughable. You can commit many crimes here and not be prosecuted.

Would probably either just answer simple questions and ignore the balance or just toss.

Amen. I've never been a fan of Big Brother.

The original census was a headcount. It has since mushroomed into a data-gathering monstrosity that is used extensively for social engineering, pet projects and pork purchases as well as the more legitimate reasons such as congressional district apportionment, issues related to public education, etc. I've made it a point to answer ONLY what I think the government needs to know about me: name, address, DOB, things like that.

Check out the census form from 100 years ago. Two pages. From the looks of it, not two full pages at all; more like two sides of a postcard. The Villages Florida

Compare that to today. Easy to see why so many people see the current system as so intrusive.
