Just wondering if any others here have received such a strange request from the "U.S. Census Bureau". I am tempted to shred it and forget it in this era of SCAMS. Would appreciate your comments, please. --Thank you.
You bet it's a scam. I used to work for the Census Bureau and there is no way that is legitimate.

Yea you’re right, wouldn’t hand out any information. Me myself don’t give any information that ask for personal info or my name. They way I think about is they mail you something so they must know my name. Throw it in file 13, or find the number but not the one on the flyer, & ask them yourself if this legitimate. I would never answer questions over the phone or some letter. Look up the phone # & you call them!

I doubt a legitimate person would have called you a stupid man and hung up.

I got one of these in Georgia a few years back that was a bunch of pages. I ignored the first one and then got a second notice with a new survey. I answered some of the basic questions of publicly found information such as age(not date of birth), race, gender, years of employment, marital status, residency questions such as how long in one place, etc. I would not answer anything about income, personal finances, or identifying data such as date of birth, etc. After returning it, I got phone calls, then a visit from a census employee to try and get me to answer the rest of the questions in person that I was uncomfortable sending in the mail. I still refused the additional information and they had the same person come back two or three times, then a supervisor. On the supervisor visit, I got much more direct and told them to stop visiting me. They stopped after that visit. I would answer what you feel is comfortable to you and send it back once you verify that it is truly the census bureau.

The national average of census forms returned was about 60% for the 2020 census. That says nothing about how complete the forms were, just that they were received. My bet is that a significant percentage of those returned forms included unanswered questions that the recipient deemed intrusive. I know mine did.

The form is indeed 48 pages long. Read the next to last page and you can see that pages 20-47 have been removed because they are duplicate questions of other pages asking for the same information about other than the head of the household.

Toss it. I certainly would.
The Census is more than the every 10 year head count. They continuously collect a wide variety of data needed for by various agencies and Congress. And federal agencies are located all over the US, not just DC. Fill out what you’re comfortable with and leave some answers blank of you wish.

Thanks, I appreciate all the comments and helpful advice. The form honestly was 47 pages and requests very personal information. I will pursue verification and If legitimate, decide if being subjected to "follow-ups" is what I want, or not. Very disappointing to know if our government has actually adopted intimidation as part of their mode of operation. I understand the original purpose of census taking and using population as a means of determining how many politicians we need to serve us, but this is a new low point with "Big Brother" tactics for the U.S.A. I am as patriotic as anyone, but why pose financial questions when records of real estate transactions, taxes, income, etc. already exist?

Do not reply or complete the questionnaire. She called you a "stupid man" which indicates it is a scam.

US Census is done every 10 years. Last was 2020.
Next will be 2030.
When you get the form you will have no doubt that it's legitimate.
