Actually, there are many, many people who have their satellite dishes on the ground as opposed to the roof. We have had DirecTV for over a decade and have NEVER had one bit of problem with their customer service or installation/repair, etc.

We did talk to a DirecTV person who was doing work at a neighbor's house and asked him about the new wireless thing they're offering. The guy said, "I didn't tell you this, but don't get it. It's not reliable."

He said you a cable will always be more reliable than wireless, plus unless you move your socket to plug the tv into, you will still have a cord showing.

Just a FYI

I hope DirecTV remains as reliable as it is, because I would hate to have to live without NFL Ticket and Extra Innings.

I got Direct TV through Century Link in 2012 when we first moved here but cancelled it a month later because of poor installation, poor customer service and poor TV channel switching. The installer put the dish on my roof without asking. I then found out from the Home Warranty Department that a satellite dish installed on the roof voids your roof warranty. I had to remove the dish myself and have my roof repaired at my expense. Be fore warned!!

We got DirecTV through... DirecTV! Why did you go to Century Link? Was it a bundling issue? Our installation was flawless, and we've never had a problem with customer service. We switched back and forth between TV and MI without any problems except one time, when we returned to MI and found the Orlando stations on our MI television. It was fixed immediately.

There are a few companies that have served us well down through the years, and haven't fallen down on their service. DirecTV is one. Sprint is another. I guess you have to search around till you find something that matches what you want.

I placed the order from Ohio before we moved based on recommendations from friends who were already here. They told me that Century Link offered TV service thru the phone line which is what I wanted, but at the time I didn't know what it was called and was not familiar with Direct TV. I called both CL and DTV trying to get what I wanted, but they each just pointed at the other vendor and neither would offer a remedy. It was a miserable experience.

Default An update on dealing with Century Link

Beware of ordering a plan through Century Link. They failed to disconnect my service in July, even after several phone conversations and a trip to the store on Hwy 27/441. I hope I finally have the billing straightened out, but it has taken a month! Their Customer Service is beyond terrible!
