I hear from the sanitation workers who heard it on the grapevine that the new Costco was having a party at the same time to celebrate the new location in the Publix parking lot. 🤣😊😂

Cinco de Mayo .... most people incorrectly think that it is Mexican independence day. And they're wrong. It's just an excuse to party and drink and listen to music and singing in a language that so many of us don't understand. I sat at SS with friends last night and the ongoings were just pure torture.

On the bright side ..... it was good to people watch. Better than Wal - Mart.

Cinco de Mayo 2023. Cinco de Mayo for the year 2023 is celebrated/ observed on Friday, May 5th. Cinco de Mayo is observed on May 5. Cinco de May is May 5th in the Spanish language. Mexican Americans celebrate this day to honor their ethnicity and remember the defeat of the French army by the Mexican army during the Battle of Puebla in Mexico

as the crystal ball is being revealed as not so crystal clear.....

The experience that I've had is the "entertainment" is like ocean waves - some good some just ...well... get a DJ, nope even that isn't any good. So don't expect a lot they don't get A or B level around here. the old saying was "if the band sounds bad just crank up the volume and they'll sound better" and that goes with everything.

The other interesting part we learned after a few trips to Mexico is - they aren't holding parties on Cinco !! it's a solemn day there, no parties just as it was described mourning. Probably why they don't drink Corona in Mexico and send it here LOL.

May your journey be less disappointing, but if you ever want to vent please feel free and PM me

What I have a real issue with is the fact that parking is a nightmare at these squares. There is no consideration for residents that are handicapped. It’s first come, first served mentality. There are many times I’d like to visit the square and listen to music, but I cannot because I am unable to walk from the parking areas. No services provided for handicapped people to get from the parking lot to the square. The availability to visit the squares is limited to able bodied people only. Now with the influx of new residents, besides the seasonal snowbirds, it’s nearly impossible to park. Three squares does not accommodate all that live here.

"In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has been relegated to the status of a minor holiday, far less important than the national celebration of Independence on September 16."

"One of the leading promoters -- and beneficiaries -- of Cinco de Mayo has been Grupo Modelo, makers of Corona Beer."

The Mexicans (born and raised in Mexico, not the USA) I know do not celebrate it as it means nothing to them.

Omaha Nebraska's Cinco de Mayo festival draws a quarter of a million people. Who knew? Wonder what the count was between LSL and SS. SS was partying until the end.

You're wrong on that as well. It isn't Mexican independence day. That's September 15. What it IS, is the commemoration of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

What's worse, is that people here are making fun of the entertainment - when most of the entertainment was brought to you by your own fellow Villagers. Those belly dancers probably practiced their routine for several hours a week, for several weeks, just to perform for you. They only got 15 minutes scheduled to do so. They had no way to know that the sound wouldn't work for them.

Nasty nasty attitudes - no wonder there are fewer groups offering to entertain lately.

Yes, I am continually surprised that people going to free entertainment, often provided by armatures, expect professional level of service?
