And while it is in the municipality known as Lady Lake, it is in Sumter County.
No. All of the Town of Lady Lake is in Lake County.

Hickory Head Hammock is in Sumter County.

Here's the official Town of Lady Lake map: Zoning and FLU Map Viewer | Lady Lake, FL

That specific house, plus scroll down and you'll see a list of homes in the vicinity. Most of the ones in the Hammock are listed as being in Lady Lake.

The search result page itself has Lady Lake > Sumter County as the filters.

And when I sign up for certain things online, and have to put my address and say Lady Lake, FL, it will often require me to check on a drop-down and select Lake or Sumter county.
Just because a place uses the Lady Lake post office doesn't mean it's in the Town of Lady Lake.

The Post Office has no say in what town/city/county any specific property lies. The town or city and county decide what is legally where, and it's on the property deed. The PO delivers mail, nothing more.

I think the situation where the postal address is different from the actual town in which the house is located is common.

We had that situation in Nashville and it was at times quite confusing. I lived in Brentwood, TN a very affluent town with top rated schools. The Brentwood post office sat right on the Brentwood/Nashville line. People in Nashville who lived near the Brentwood post office had a Brentwood mailing address. If you asked them where they lived, they would say "Brentwood" All their mail said "Brentwood". Their driver's licenses, all similar paperwork said "Brentwood". But they sent their kids to Nashville schools, not Brentwood, and taxes went to Nashville. They actually lived in Nashville.

I think it is a similar situation here.

My credit card company suggested that I use lady Lake. Because when they put 32159 in the computer, that’s how it comes up. And if I put The Villages it confuses them.
