Maybe she will meet her at the beach. That would be a "hoot".

The good news is I won't be one of your snow birds. My new home is in the Daytona Beach area. I don't think TV is a bad place. It's just not for me.

Sadly I'm giving up on my dream of meeting Jennifer Parr. Oh well. You can't have everything.

This forum has been a wealth of information and source of an occasional laugh or two.

I wish all of you luck in getting your Costco.
I'm in the same boat you were before you decided on Daytona. About 3 years ago, I toured all over Florida looking for my dream retirement location. Nothing seemed to compare to the Villages with a swimming pool on every corner, endless list of activities, quaint town centers with nightly live entertainment, not to mention it's location far enough inland to avoid most of the hurricanes. I came out and stayed at TV for a month the following year, and again this past year to make sure it's the right place, as it will likely be my last move.

I assume you were looking for something similar to the features of TV, otherwise it wouldn't have taken you so long, so may I ask what you found in Daytona that compares? Thank you.

Halal food is very similar to Kosher food in the way it is slaughtered and prepared...

I worked at a Kosher Supermarket/Deli when in HS/College and we had many Muslim customers who shopped there, since there were no Halal Markets locally...

That's how I met Kareem Abdul-Jabbar... I waited on him from behind the deli counter. Behind the counter was a step up, and we typically looked down at the customers. I'm 6' 1", and even one step up, he towered over me. Such a nice gentleman. I shook hands with him... It was like shaking hands with a spider!

Hmmm, I must check that out! I recall investigating it online (but haven’t visited) before moving to TV but now I can’t remember why I didn’t pursue it further.

We have friends there. They love it, but they're not golfers, and there are no on-site golf courses... So it's a no for me...

I wonder about people. Privacy seems to be something that people in the computer age do not miss or realize it's value.

Do some need approval?

Being happy is a choice not a place. The Villages has a lot to offer and yet, people are happy everywhere.

I doubt my situation applies to anyone else.

I'd rather sit in a dentists chair than a chair by a pool but I do like the beach. My drinking days are long over so boozing it up at the town squares every night has no appeal to me. I do like to golf but is there really anyplace in Florida you can't find a golf course? Once or twice a week is fine for me.

I have been playing pickleball a couple of times per week since I've been here but it's so crowded with those damn snowbirds the enjoyment is hit or miss. I'll be close enough to join the Pictona 49 court facility in Holly Hill and hope to join a league or 2 next year. Plus there are public courts around Daytona.

And the number 1 reason I chose the Daytona area ... gun clubs. There are a couple of gun clubs that run the type of pistol matches I compete in up north. Up north I'm lucky to shoot in a match 3 or 4 times a month. In the Daytona area I could shoot 3 or 4 per week. I just shot a match this AM in Flagler. Weekday matches up north are unheard of. If the weather had been better I would have hit Flagler beach for an hour or 2 to get my ocean fix. I was able to shoot a few matches with a couple of people I normally shoot with in NH who came down to Daytona for a week specifically to max out on pistol matches to get ready for the season up north. My buddies up north are extremely jealous of all the shooting I'm doing.

And to answer an earlier question, no I didn't buy in that Jimmy Buffet place. I'd rather listen to NPR on a loop than Buffet music.

So, like I said. My situation probably doesn't apply to anyone else.

Congrat's on finding your happy place. I lived in South Daytona for many years and loved it. NSB and Flager beaches were my favorites.

Pictona is awesome, very active groups with lots of stuff going on and and super nice people so I wouldn't delay getting involved there.

Several of the Magaritaville people I've met at Pictona have been very curious about The Villages. Mostly because the social life and amenities are relatively limited where they live now (in their case).

Nice answer, thanks. And for the interesting story too.

Gee, that sounds just like The Villages. LOL.
