There are a lot of reasons why the building is the size it is… mostly based on the 19 acre lot. 162000 SF requires 5 parking spaces per 1000 or somewhere to 800 spaces and 2% need to be handicapped accessible. A parking spaces is 162 SF (9x18) the handicaps are over 200 sf each. That’s 130,000 SF for just the spaces. Probably another 100,000sf for all the aisles. Then there is the gas station and the number of pumps then add the local requirements on islands of plantings required and maybe they need to put in a 50,000 sf retention pond to house the storm water… loading area for all the trucks… all that goes into how to balance the maximum size of the building for a particular lot size.

FYI, non-members can use the pharmacy as required by state law. They can also use the hearing and optical centers, but only Costco members can purchase hearing aids and eyeglasses.

May of this year? Wow, I hope you're right! I heard speculation that it wouldn't be until 2026.

I googled it and it looks like it only takes about 110 days to build a Costco, so that sounds about right.

I'm gonna be so happy to not have to drive to Claremont anymore.

We did the Clermont Costco trip yesterday, and we can’t wait until it’s closer and we can avoid the turnpike.

That’s why I check online before going to Lowe’s or Home Depot. Plus the website can tell me exactly where in the store to find what I want.

Costco is called a "warehouse", not a store. I don't see what your point is.

There is a parcel of land sectioned off in front of the land where costruction has begun. Do you have any idea if that parcel also will be part of Costco? I'm thinking possibly for the fuel pumps?

Yes, according to my contractor, the Home Depot on Powell Road is not “full size”. He was unable to find a ceiling fan light for me. He said he had to go to a larger one.

Each aisle is 3” wider.

Your contractor is not correct. The average size of a Home Depot store is 105,000 SF. Both the Powell Road and the Lady Lake Home Depots are approximately 105,000 SF, so they are average sized stores.

I tried to resist . . . but I have to do it: Clermont.

Hmmm …38 miles vs 11. So, yes, the new one is closer. Never been to Clermont Costco, never will. I don’t see the point of driving 38 miles to buy what I can get down the street…and I’ll never use that gallon jug of mayonnaise. Why? Somehow they have made us believe that we should operate in fear…fear of shortage.
